MANILA — Senate has ordered the arrest of suspended Bamban Mayor Alice Guo after she skipped the hearings on the probe of illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
The arrest order was signed by Senate President Francis Escudero on July 11 and Senator Risa Hontiveros, chairman of the Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality.
According to the arrest order, she must be detained at the Office of the Sergeant-At-Arms “until such time that she will appear and testify in the Committee, or otherwise purges herself of that contempt.”
“The Sergeant-At-Arms is hereby directed to carry out and implement this Order and make a return hereof within twenty-four (24) hours from its enforcement,” the arrest order stated.
It can be recalled that Guo submitted an explanation letter to the Senate for not attending the hearing, however, Senate Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada said it was “totally unacceptable.”
Dennis Lacson Cunanan, Nancy Jimenez Gamo, as well as Guo’s parents Jian Zhong Guo and Wen Yi Lin, and her siblings Seimen, Sheila, and Wesley have been ordered arrest.
