MANILA — The shear line and the northeast monsoon, or amihan, are expected to bring significant rainfall and potential hazards to parts of Northern and Eastern Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported on Saturday (14 Dec 2024).

In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said the shear line will cause cloudy skies, scattered rains, and isolated thunderstorms over Quezon province and the Bicol Region.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies and continuous rains over Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, and Aurora. PAGASA warned that moderate to heavy rainfall in these areas may lead to flash floods or landslides.

The amihan will also cause partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains in the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to easterly winds.

Rough Seas Warning for Northern Luzon

PAGASA issued a warning for strong to gale-force winds and rough to very rough seas in Northern Luzon. Mariners, particularly those with small vessels, are advised against sea travel in the northern seaboards of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte. Waves in these areas may reach heights between 3.1 and 4.5 meters.

Moderate to strong winds and corresponding sea conditions will affect Central Luzon, while the rest of the country will experience lighter winds and calmer seas.

Stay updated and take necessary precautions for potential weather disruptions.
