MANILA — Senate President Chiz Escudero confirmed on Wednesday (18 Dec 2024) that there was a bomb threat on Tuesday (17 Dec 2024).
“Yes… through the Senate’s social media account. While it was not considered a credible or serious threat, the OSAA (Office of the Sergeant-At-Arms) is taking the necessary precautions,” Escudero said.
Although the threat was not deemed credible, the Senate has tightened security.
Senate Secretary Renato Bantug noted that someone had posted the threat on the Senate’s Facebook page Tuesday morning, but he suggested it might have been a “prank” since the user had also posted similar messages on other accounts.
Vehicles entering the Senate are now being thoroughly inspected.
