MANILA — Senate President Chiz Escudero confirmed that Malacañang invoked executive privilege during the Senate hearing on the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte.

Justice Secretary Boying Remulla asserted executive privilege when asked about the discussion between Cabinet members and President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on March 10 regarding the information they received about the impending arrest warrant for Duterte.

Remulla made this statement during the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations hearing, which was led by the President’s sister, Sen. Imee Marcos.

Escudero stated that Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin had submitted a letter to him and Imee regarding the invocation of executive privilege.

In the letter, Bersamin emphasized that under executive privilege, Malacañang is allowed to keep confidential the contents of conversations between the President and his Cabinet members.
