MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Saturday (30 Nov 2024) urged Filipinos to honor the legacy of revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio by helping liberate the Philippines from the “ills of society.”

In his message for Bonifacio’s 161st birth anniversary, Marcos emphasized the nation’s debt of gratitude to the revolutionary leader for awakening Filipino nationalism and inspiring self-determination.

“Gat Andres may have been long gone, but his fight carries on. His courage, selflessness, and determination continue to inspire us all to strive for greatness in our shared task of nation-building,” Marcos said.

“Let us honor his memory by finding a deeper meaning in his sacrifice and doing our part in liberating our country from the shackles of hunger, corruption, criminality, and other ills of society.”

The President highlighted Bonifacio’s heroism, noting how his courage fueled the Philippine Revolution, uniting Filipinos and inspiring many to sacrifice their lives for the cause of independence.

He expressed optimism that under his administration, Filipinos would stand united in achieving genuine peace and progress under the banner of the “New Philippines.”

“As we celebrate this auspicious occasion, let us remember the legacy of sacrifice that he and our forebears have demonstrated,” Marcos said. “With patriotism, discipline, and love for one another as our guide, let us build a better Bagong Pilipinas where every Filipino lives in genuine peace, progress, and harmony.”

Bonifacio, dubbed the “Father of the Philippine Revolution,” was born in Tondo, Manila, on Nov. 30, 1863. Unlike other national heroes, he is remembered on his birth anniversary as he was executed by fellow Filipinos rather than Spanish colonizers.

A co-founder of the Katipunan in 1892, Bonifacio played a pivotal role in the fight for Philippine independence. Despite being replaced as the Katipunan’s Supremo by Emilio Aguinaldo in 1897 and later executed on charges of treason, his leadership and vision remain integral to the country’s history.

The Katipunan’s revolutionary efforts ultimately led to Philippine independence from Spain in 1898.

MANILA — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Friday (29 Nov 2024) expressed his opposition to calls for the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio, saying such a move would not benefit the Filipino people.

“This is not important. This does not make any difference to even one single Filipino life. So, why waste time on this?” Marcos stated.

The President emphasized that pursuing an impeachment would only hinder the legislative process. “What will happen if somebody files an impeachment? It will tie down the House, it will tie down the Senate. It will just take up all our time and for what? For nothing, for nothing. None of this will help improve a single Filipino life. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a storm in a teacup,” he added.

Marcos also addressed a text message reportedly sent by him, urging lawmakers to refrain from filing an impeachment complaint against Duterte-Carpio.

“In the larger scheme of things, Sara is unimportant. So please do not file impeachment complaints,” the message read.

MANILA — House leaders on Wednesday (27 November 2024) welcomed S&P Global Ratings’ recent upgrade of the Philippines’ credit rating outlook to “positive,” emphasizing the role of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.’s economic agenda in achieving this significant achievement.

“Ang positibong credit outlook ay patunay ng mahusay na pamumuno at mga polisiya ni Pangulong Marcos na nakatuon sa pagpapalakas ng ating ekonomiya,” Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr. said.

He attributed this achievement to the administration’s proactive governance and strategic economic reforms, and the cooperation of the House of Representatives under the leadership of Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez.

“Sa ilalim ng liderato ni Pangulong Marcos, natutukan natin ang mahahalagang reporma na nagbigay daan sa mas matatag at mapagkakatiwalaang ekonomiya. Ito ang resulta ng maayos na kooperasyon sa pagitan ng ehekutibo at lehislatibo,” Gonzales stressed.

The House of Representatives played a vital role in supporting the administration’s economic agenda by passing key legislation, such as the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Act and amendments to the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) Law, which foster economic development and attract investments.

For his part, House Majority Leader Manuel Jose “Mannix” M. Dalipe emphasized the significance of this economic milestone.

“This positive outlook is glaring proof to our efforts in steering the country towards economic resilience and growth,” he said.

“The House has been proactive in enacting legislation that fosters economic stability and growth. Our commitment to passing laws that encourage public-private partnerships has been instrumental in funding major infrastructure projects,” Dalipe stated.

MANILA — The government is considering filing charges against Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio for alleged death threats against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Department of Justice (DOJ) Undersecretary Jesse Hermogenes Andres stated that the government may pursue sedition charges “or even graver offenses” in connection with the threats.

According to Andres, the “premeditated plot,” allegedly admitted by Duterte, “will now face legal consequences.”

“Based on our initial assessment, sedition is a possibility. We are also considering other serious criminal offenses beyond sedition. Grave threats and sedition are both under review,” Andres explained.

He mentioned that authorities are investigating potential conspiracies and have enlisted various agencies to trace the alleged assassins supposedly hired by the Vice President.

Earlier, President Marcos stated he would not allow this incident to go unchallenged.

“‘Yang ganyang pagtatangka ay hindi dapat pinapalampas. ‘Yan ay aking papalagan. As a democratic country, we need to uphold the rule of law,” the President emphasized.

MANILA — Following the grave threats publicly aired by Vice President Sara Duterte over the weekend, the House of Representatives on Monday (25 November 2024) unanimously adopted a resolution expressing support for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. and Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez.

Sponsored by Senior Deputy Speaker and Pampanga 3rd District Rep. Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr., along with Majority Leader Manuel Jose “Mannix” Dalipe, House Resolution (HR) No. 2092 is entitled, “Expressing the unwavering and unqualified support and solidarity of the House of Representatives to the leadership of His Excellency, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., and the Honorable Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez in the face of serious and dangerous remarks and defiant acts that threaten the very foundation of democratic governance, rule of law, and public trust and integrity of government institutions.”

Other authors of the resolution include House Minority Leader Marcelino “Nonoy” Libanan, and Reps. Yedda Marie K. Romualdez and Jude Acidre of Tingog Partylist.

In support of the resolution, the following lawmakers from various political parties expressed their individual manifestations: Deputy Speaker David “Jay-jay” Suarez of Quezon from Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD); Rep. Albert S. Garcia (2nd District, Bataan) from the National Unity Party (NUP); Rep. Mark Enverga (1st District, Quezon) from the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC); Rep. Robert Ace Barbers (2nd District, Surigao del Norte) from the Nacionalista Party (NP); Rep. Rosanna Ria Vergara (3rd District, Nueva Ecija) from Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP); Rep. Erwin Tulfo of ACT-CIS from the Party-List Coalition Foundation (PCFI); Deputy Majority Leader Rep. Jam Baronda (Lone District, Iloilo City) from Lakas-CMD; Rep. Toby Tiangco (Lone District, Navotas City) from Partido Navoteño; and Rep. Gabriel Bordado (3rd District, Camarines Sur) from the Liberal Party (LP).

“The importance of this resolution cannot be overstated. As members of this honorable and highly esteemed institution, it is our responsibility to uphold the dignity, honor and integrity of the House of Representatives,” Gonzales said.

“In doing so, we must also express our collective solidarity with our leaders who stand at the forefront of defending our democratic institutions and the rule of law,” he said.

Dalipe delivered a separate sponsorship speech, in which he, like Gonzales, referred to threats made on President Marcos, the First Lady and Speaker Romualdez, and other threatening and explosive statements.

The two leaders did not refer to Vice President Sara Duterte by name as the one who made those utterances over the weekend.

Gonzales said President Marcos Jr.’s leadership “continues to guide our nation toward progress and stability.”

“His vision for a strong and united Philippines is evident in his administration’s achievements. It is our duty as legislators to rally behind our President in defending the interests of the Filipino people and safeguarding the future of our democratic institutions,” he added.

In his sponsorship remarks, Gonzales referred to “recent events” that “have brought to light conduct and statements that not only threaten the dignity of this chamber but also compromise national security and public trust in government.”

“These include actions that defy protocols, undermine accountability, and most alarmingly, threats to the very lives of our leaders – His Excellency, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the First Lady, Mrs. Liza Araneta Marcos, and our beloved Speaker, Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez,” he said, without naming Vice President Sara Duterte as the one who made the statements over the weekend.

He said as for Speaker Romualdez, the House leader “has displayed exemplary leadership and unwavering resolve in defending this institution against those who seek to weaken it.”

“His swift and decisive response to these serious threats is a testament to his commitment to upholding the principles of democratic governance and the rule of law,” he said.

He added that under the leadership of Speaker Romualdez, the House “has demonstrated unity, dynamism, and effectiveness in performing its mandate.”

“We have passed crucial legislations that support the priorities of the administration and address the needs of our constituents. These successes show that, with a stalwart like Speaker Romualdez, this institution can withstand any obstacle and remain a pillar of democracy,” Gonzales stressed.

For his part, Dalipe said the House of Representatives “stands as a cornerstone of this nation’s democracy.”

“As we carry out our mandate and stand to uphold the Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines, we operate on established rules and procedures to ensure transparency, accountability, and order within our walls – and beyond,” he said.

He said over the past few days, the nation “witnessed the blatant disregard for these rules and protocols by no less than the second highest official of the land.”

“I take this opportunity to reiterate that this august chamber must be accorded the honor and dignity befitting its status as the House of the People. To disrespect this chamber is to disrespect the people that we represent. No public official, regardless of rank or position, should consider itself above and beyond the 100-million strong Filipino people by obstructing the lawful proceedings and orders of the House,” he added.

Dalipe pointed out that the “wanton breach of protocol, the use of vindictive language, and the threat of harm aimed at the leaders of this country show a deep and encompassing disrespect for the rule of law and the democratic institutions that we have sworn to protect.”

“I believe that we can do better. We must remember that our actions set the tone of public governance in the country. I applaud President Marcos and Speaker Romualdez for their patience, restraint, and ability to rise above the fray by blocking out the external noise and focusing on the work that needs to be done. I urge all of us to follow their example,” he stressed.

He urged his colleagues to “continue to do our work, no matter the obstacles put in our path, and remember that it is in our collective strength that we have achieved all our legislative goals, and more.”

MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday (25 Nov 2024) said that he would uphold the rule of law after the tirades of Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio made against him, the First Lady Liza Marcos and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

“‘Yang ganyang pagtatangka (sa buhay) ay hindi dapat pinapalampas. ‘Yan ay aking papalagan. As a democratic country, we need to uphold the rule of law,” Marcos said, referring to the video Duterte-Carpio made wherein she spit out expletives against the President, the First Lady and Romualdez and also boasted that she hired somebody to also kill them all in the event that she gets killed.

The Chief Executive said that he won’t compromise the rule of law which should be applied to everyone.

He also promised not to let “dirty politicking” drag the country down.

“Igalang natin ang proseso. Tuparin natin ang batas. Alalahanin natin ang mandato na pinagkatiwala sa atin ng milyon-milyong Pilipino,” the President said in what could be his very first “counter-attack” against his former Uniteam runningmate in the 2022 elections.

Duterte embarked on a fighting mode ever since Congress focused its attention on her unexplained confidential funds amounting around P700 million.

“Magtrabaho po tayo sa ikauunlad ng Republika ng Pilipinas at para matamo ang Bagong Pilipinas.”

Meanwhile, Marcos reminded government officials of their duty to protect the country and the Constitution.

MANILA — A House leader on Saturday (23 November 2024) called for heightened security measures to protect President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez following Vice President Sara Duterte’s alarming remarks threatening their lives.

House Assistant Majority Leader and Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong described Duterte’s statements as reckless and destabilizing and emphasized that such statements should not be dismissed and should not be taken lightly with a grain of salt, as he emphasized the need to safeguard the country’s top leaders against any potential harm.

“Ang Pangulo at ang Speaker ay mahalagang haligi ng ating demokrasya. Anumang banta laban sa kanila ay banta rin sa seguridad ng ating bansa. It is imperative that we ensure their safety at all costs,” Adiong said.

Adiong responded to Duterte’s claim during a Zoom press conference, where she allegedly instructed an unnamed individual to target the President, the First Lady, and the Speaker if she were assassinated.

“This rhetoric is deeply irresponsible and deeply troubling. We do not want these kinds of threats be directed against anyone, not to the sitting President, the Speaker or even to the Vice President herself. Instead of fostering unity, it incites fear and division, creates an atmosphere of insecurity among the top echelon of our government and promotes a culture of violence which is diametrically opposed to the core of our democratic system of governance. We must take these threats seriously and provide heightened security for the President, the First Lady, and the Speaker,” Adiong emphasized.

He pointed out that protecting the nation’s leaders is crucial not just for their personal safety but for preserving the stability and integrity of the government and securing the democratically elected leaders of the country.

“Ang ganitong klase ng pananalita mula sa isang mataas na opisyal ay hindi dapat binabalewala,” Adiong stated. “The safety of our leaders is paramount to maintaining the trust and confidence of the people in our democratic institutions.”

The House leader also called on Duterte to retract her statements and clarify her intentions.

“Kung may mga isyung kailangang harapin, dapat itong sagutin nang maayos at direkta. Threats have no place in governance, especially against our top leaders,” Adiong stressed.

He urged government agencies to intensify efforts to secure the President, the First Lady, and the Speaker while addressing the implications of Duterte’s remarks.

“We must send a clear message: threats against our leaders will not be tolerated. Ang proteksyon ng ating Pangulo at Speaker ay proteksyon din ng ating bayan,” Adiong said.

MANILA – Acting on the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr., the House of Representatives, led by Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, together with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), has launched the “Tabang Bikol, Tindog Oragon” relief initiative.

The initiative includes 24 truckloads of relief goods and P750 million in financial aid for those affected by recent typhoons in Bicol, including the island province of Catanduanes, which was devastated by Super Typhoon Pepito.

Romualdez said the relief efforts, which departed on Monday (November 18, 2024) for Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, and Catanduanes, are aimed at providing urgent assistance to the typhoon-stricken provinces of the Bicol Region, particularly Catanduanes, which bore the brunt of the super typhoon.

“Ito ang mensahe sa atin ng ating mahal na Pangulong Bongbong Marcos, na tayo ay magkaisa at patunayang kaya nating magtulungan at bumangon mula sa kahit anong unos. Alam natin ang hirap ng ating mga kababayang nasalanta, kaya tayo ay pupunta doon para maghatid ng relief goods at tulong-pinansyal,” Romualdez said.

“Pagkakaisa pa rin ang esensya ng ating pagbangon. Sabay-sabay tayong tatayo mula sa kalamidad na ito at magsumikap para sa magandang kinabukasan,” added Romualdez, the leader of the more than 300-member House of Representatives.

The relief operation is being spearheaded by House Appropriations Committee Chairman Zaldy Co, a proud Bicolano, and coordinated by House Deputy Secretary General Sofonias “Ponyong” P. Gabonada Jr. The initiative focuses on both immediate relief and sustainable recovery.

Key components of the initiative include:

Financial assistance payouts: Beginning November 18, financial aid under the DSWD Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program will be distributed to over 150,000 beneficiaries across the region.

Mini-Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair (BPSF): On November 21, a mini-BPSF event will be held to provide residents with essential government services, including housing, healthcare, and livelihood programs. Venues include the Jessie Robredo Coliseum in Naga City, Ka-Fuerte Sports Complex in Pili, and the BUPC Gymnasium in Polangui, with 10,000 beneficiaries expected at each location.

Distribution of relief goods: A convoy of 24 trucks carrying food, hygiene kits, clothing, and other essential items will depart from the House of Representatives on November 18 to deliver aid to the affected communities.

According to Gabonada, the initiative reflects the House’s commitment to a holistic and sustainable recovery approach.

The operation also highlights key partnerships between government agencies and private donors, including Tingog Partylist, PHILRECA, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), and other private groups. These efforts aim to meet the immediate needs of affected families while also empowering communities for long-term recovery.

Romualdez, who himself experienced the impact of Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013, emphasized the importance of combining swift relief with sustainable development.

“Ito ang ating natutunan sa mga nagdaang bagyo, na ang response and recovery ay dapat mabilis. Dapat naihahatid agad ang tulong sa ating mga apektadong komunidad at hindi lamang ito pantawid sa nangyari, kundi kasama rin ang tulong sa pagbangon mula sa epekto ng bagyo,” Romualdez explained.

The initiative will culminate in the ceremonial turnover of relief goods during the mini-BPSF events on November 21, reinforcing the message of unity and resilience among affected communities.

“Tabang Bikol, Tindog Oragon” underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that no family is left behind in the recovery process.

MANILA — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr., in close coordination with Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, the House of Representatives, and Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian, has launched the Tabang Bikol, Tindog Oragon relief initiative.

This effort, worth nearly P750 million, will provide financial assistance and 24 truckloads of relief goods to over 150,000 beneficiaries across the Bicol region.

The assistance comes after a series of weather disturbances, including Supertyphoon Pepito.

The program, with Speaker Romualdez as the main proponent, aims to support communities in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Albay as they recover from the devastation caused by Typhoons Kristine, Carina, and Super Typhoon Pepito.

“Ito ang direktiba ng ating mahal na Pangulong Marcos, ang tulungan ang mga nasalanta ng bagyo sa Bicol. This initiative is our way of showing that we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our kababayans in Bicol during these challenging times,” Speaker Romualdez said.

“Ang Tabang Bikol ay hindi lamang tulong pinansyal; ito’y simbolo ng malasakit at pagkakaisa ng sambayanang Pilipino,” the Speaker, who leads the 300-plus-member House of Representatives, added.

The relief effort includes three major activities: financial assistance payouts, a mini-Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair (BPSF), and the distribution of relief goods.

According to House Deputy Secretary General Sofonias “Ponyong” P. Gabonada, the initiative is also spearheaded by House Appropriations Committee Chairman Zaldy Co, who hails from Bicol. It embodies the House’s commitment to “holistic and sustainable recovery,” addressing both immediate and long-term needs.

Gabonada added that the distribution of financial aid, under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program, will begin on November 18.

The mini-BPSF, scheduled for November 21, will offer residents access to essential government services, including housing, healthcare, and livelihood programs, according to Gabonada.

The activities will take place at multiple venues: Jessie Robredo Coliseum in Naga City, Ka-Fuerte Sports Complex in Pili, and BUPC Gymnasium in Polangui, with 10,000 beneficiaries expected at each location.

Romualdez emphasized the importance of combining financial aid with services that foster long-term support.

“Hindi lamang ito pantawid sa ngayon, kundi hakbang tungo sa mas maayos na kinabukasan. Mahalaga na magkaisa ang lahat – pamahalaan, pribadong sektor, at bawat Pilipino – upang mapanumbalik ang sigla ng ating mga komunidad,” Speaker Romualdez said.

A key feature of the initiative is the distribution of relief goods, which were gathered through a nationwide donation drive. Dozens of truckloads carrying food, hygiene kits, clothing, and other essentials will depart from the House of Representatives on Monday, November 18, to bring aid to thousands of families.

The logistics effort reflects the commitment of the government and private donors to deliver tangible relief to affected areas.

The event also highlights the importance of partnerships in disaster response. Donations include hundreds of sacks of rice and canned goods contributed by various groups, such as Tingog Party-list, PHILRECA, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), and private donors.

The initiative underscores Speaker Romualdez’s personal dedication to disaster relief, drawing from his experience in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. He has championed swift and comprehensive responses to ensure that affected families receive both immediate assistance and the tools to rebuild their lives with dignity.

November 21 will also feature the ceremonial turnover of relief goods during the mini-BPSF events in Naga City, Pili, and Polangui. These gatherings aim to reinforce the message of unity and resilience within the affected communities.

“Tabang Bikol, Tindog Oragon reflects the compassion, resilience, and unity of the Filipino spirit,” Gabonada noted.

The beneficiaries of this program include families displaced by recent weather disturbances, many of whom have lost their homes and livelihoods. With activities spanning multiple provinces, Tabang Bikol, Tindog Oragon demonstrates the House’s commitment to reaching even the most remote communities in the region.

“Ang ating pagkakaisa ay patunay na kaya nating bumangon mula sa kahit anong unos. Magtulungan tayo para sa mas maliwanag na kinabukasan,” Romualdez said.

MANILA — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. emphasized the crucial role of media in combating disinformation and misinformation in the country.

“With technological advancements and the rise of social media, we’ve witnessed an increase in disinformation campaigns that could undermine public trust in our democratic processes, including elections,” the President said during the 50th Top Level Management Conference (TLMC) organized by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) in Tagaytay City.

“In this context, the media plays a vital role in dispelling the harmful effects of misinformation and dismantling the lies spread by troll farms and other malicious entities,” he added.

He further noted that the media’s responsibility goes beyond simply informing the public—it must also enlighten and empower.

“Your influence as journalists is profound. With every report, story, and headline, you help shape public perception, strengthening our citizens’ ability to make informed decisions and voice their dreams and aspirations,” the Chief Executive concluded.

MANILA — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. reiterated his position that the Philippines will not cooperate with the International Criminal Court (ICC) regarding its investigation into the war on drugs.

However, Marcos clarified that cooperation would only be possible if former president Rodrigo Duterte consents.

“As stated by the Executive Secretary and former Chief Justice, if that is what PRRD desires, we will not block the ICC. We just will not assist. But if he agrees to engage with them or allow the investigation, that will be his decision. We will have no say in that,” Marcos explained.

In the meantime, the President confirmed that the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) are conducting their own investigation into the previous administration’s anti-drug campaign.

Authorities are awaiting the results of the investigation, Marcos added, noting that several questions remain unresolved.

On Wednesday, Duterte appeared at the House quad-committee hearing on his administration’s war on drugs. During the hearing, he urged the ICC to expedite its investigation into his actions.

MANILA — On Monday (11 Nov 2024), President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. signed into law the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises to Maximize Opportunities for Reinvigorating the Economy (CREATE MORE) Act, which aims to generate jobs for Filipinos.

During the signing ceremony, Marcos stated that the new law paves the way for a business environment that empowers enterprises and enhances growth prospects.

“By building on the reforms initiated through the CREATE Act, we have improved our tax regime and incentive framework, making it more attractive for investment—while staying true to the principles of fiscal prudence and stability,” he said.

Marcos added that the CREATE MORE Act would attract both domestic and global investments, focusing on strategic industries that will shape the nation’s future.

“CREATE MORE clarifies the rules for VAT and duty incentives and extends its coverage to include non-registered exporters and high-value domestic market enterprises,” the President noted.

The new law also provides tax or duty exemptions on donations of capital equipment, raw materials, spare parts, and accessories to the government, government-owned and -controlled corporations (GOCCs), the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), state universities and colleges, the Department of Education, and CHED-accredited schools.

MANILA — As promised, Malacañang on Friday (08 Nov 2024) issued Executive Order No. 74, banning all Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (Pogos), Internet Gaming, and other offshore gaming activities in the country.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said “the State has the paramount duty to safeguard national security, maintain public order, uphold the rule of law, protect the safety of its citizens, and ensure the integrity of the social fabric of the nation.”

According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), this move is in response to the concerns of agencies such as the Department of Finance (DOF) and the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), saying that POGO operations caused negative effects such as increased crime, exploitation, and money laundering risk.

The Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) Report also indicated Pogos have been identified as susceptible to money laundering, fraud, and other illicit financial activities.

“The high reputational risks associated with POGO/IGL operations deter foreign investment and tourism, undermining the efforts of the National Government in promoting the country as a safe and sustainable investment and tourism destination,” the EO read.

The President’s order, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on November 5, will cover Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators and Offshore Gaming Operations and Services.

During his third State of the Nation Address last July, Marcos promised to ban all the Pogos in the country.

MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will not attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Week in Lima, Peru, from Nov. 10 to 16, Malacañang announced Thursday (07 Nov 2024).

Under Peru’s chairmanship, APEC aims to set strategic priorities for trade, innovation, and resilience in the coming year.

New appointees

In addition to the APEC announcement, the PCO released a list of new presidential appointees.

MANILA — To ensure that all families and individuals severely affected by Severe Tropical Storm (STS) ‘Kristine’ receive assistance, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian joined President Ferdinand R. “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in distributing the Presidential Assistance to Farmers, Fisherfolk, and Their Families (PAFFF) in the Bicol Region on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

“Narito po akong muli upang personal na maghatid ng mga karagdagang tulong para sa mga kababayan natin na lubhang naapektuhan ng Bagyong Kristine dito sa Camarines Sur. Umaasa po ako na sa tulong at suportang iniaabot namin sa inyo ngayon, kayo ay magkakaroon ng sapat na kakayahan upang makabangon muli,” President Marcos said in his message during the aid distribution at the Fuerte CamSur Sports Complex in Pili, Camarines Sur.

In his message, Gatchalian assured Bicolanos that DSWD would continue to provide assistance to affected families, in addition to the 500,000 boxes of family food packs (FFPs) already distributed to local government units (LGUs) in the region, as instructed by President Marcos.

“Ngayong araw na ito, nandito po kami kasama ang iba pang departamento, para dalhin naman ang financial assistance,” he said.

The DSWD chief assisted President Marcos in the ceremonial distribution of Php10,000 each to select beneficiaries. Approximately 5,000 farmers, fisherfolk, and other families affected by ‘Kristine’ are expected to receive assistance during the aid distribution.

“Alam po natin na pagkatapos ng sakuna, marami ang kailangang ayusin at kumpunihin. Kaya narito po kami upang agarang matugunan ang inyong mga pangangailangan,” Gatchalian emphasized.

Camarines Sur Governor Vincenzo Renato Luigi Villafuerte expressed his gratitude to President Marcos and Secretary Gatchalian for the immediate assistance provided to his constituents.

“Aside from the 231 barangays that were totally submerged [and received assistance], the 693 barangays that were partially submerged were also given assistance, 100 percent. Kaya maraming salamat po. Secretary Rex, salamat din po sa tulong, hindi n’yo po kami pinabayaan, at sinigurado n’yo po na hindi kami mauubusan,” Villafuerte said.

After the cash aid distribution in Camarines Sur, the Presidential team headed to Legazpi City to provide assistance to 5,000 farmers and fisherfolk in Albay province.

“Mula po sa Tanggapan ng Pangulo, katuwang ang DSWD, maglalaan din po tayo ng Php50 million upang matugunan ang pangangailangan ng mga naapektuhan sa tatlong lungsod at labinglimang bayan ng Albay,” President Marcos said during the distribution at the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation in Legazpi City.

Cabinet officials present during the aid distribution included Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Secretary Antonio “Anton” Lagdameo Jr., Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla.

MANILA — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to prioritize the development of climate-resilient roads in light of the country’s changing climate conditions.

“Ang DPWH ay tinagubilinan natin na pagbutihin ang slope protection design ng ating mga kalsada at tulay nang matiyak na ito ay angkop sa pagbabago ng klima,” Marcos stated.

The President’s remarks came after Severe Tropical Storm Kristine caused significant infrastructure damage in Batangas.

“Dahil sa matinding pabago-bagong panahon, ang ating imprastraktura ay dapat masigurong ligtas at angkop sa gitna ng unos at iba pang sakuna. Kaya inaatasan ko ang DPWH na hindi lang ito matatapos sa inaasahang oras, kundi matibay at kalidad din,” he added.

Government records indicate that Severe Tropical Storm Kristine inflicted damage on several infrastructures, including a road in Agoncillo, Batangas, the Bugaan Bridge in Laurel, and slope protection measures along the bridge.

Additionally, the President instructed the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to ensure that all materials used in infrastructure projects meet high-quality standards.

“The signing of these 15 new Republic Acts (RA) during the recess shows a relentless commitment to our people,” Speaker Romualdez, the leader of the 300-plus-strong House of Representatives said Monday (04 Nov 2024).

“Our new law against agricultural economic sabotage directly targets those who seek to exploit our farmers and consumers through smuggling and other illicit activities,” Speaker Romualdez said, referring to RA 12022.

“Agriculture is the backbone of our economy, and this law will protect it by enforcing strict penalties and giving jurisdiction to the CTA, ensuring those responsible are held accountable,” he pointed out.

The Speaker noted that the other new laws address specific challenges facing Filipinos today as he emphasized the importance of expanded judicial access and strengthened educational support.

“The additional trial court branches will reduce case backlogs and ensure timely justice, while initiatives like the ARAL program and the strengthened defense posture reflect our commitment to education and national security,” he said.

The House chief emphasized that the new laws demonstrate a shared commitment to enhancing national resilience and improving public services, even while the 19th Congress is on recess.

“The passage of these laws underscores our dedication to meaningful progress and a stronger future for every Filipino,” he said.

The Speaker added: “These 15 new laws are only the beginning. We remain focused on legislation that brings real change, prioritizing safety, justice, and prosperity for all.”
