As part of its commitment to advancing disaster resilience, Globe featured a suite of digital solutions designed to enable inclusive and effective disaster management during the 2024 Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR).

This year’s conference brought together over 4,000 representatives from governments, private sector, and civil society organizations, underscoring the urgent need for cooperation in tackling disaster risk and strengthening resilience in one of the most disaster-prone regions globally.

“Globe contributes to a safer, more resilient nation by leveraging technology to empower communities, government agencies, and local government units with the tools they need to respond swiftly and inclusively to disaster scenarios,” said KD Dizon, Head of Globe Business.

Globe’s suite of tools facilitates proactive disaster preparedness, helping organizations and local governments prepare communities well before disaster strikes. These include:

  • ●       Inquiro – A data analytics platform, Inquiro enables stakeholders to analyze high-risk areas by identifying patterns and trends from large data sets.  This allows proactive planning and prioritized evacuation, ensuring that individuals in vulnerable zones are informed and prepared.
  • ●       M360 – A multi-channel messaging platform that supports remote collaboration and communication. M360 delivers alerts, notifications, and public awareness messages via SMS to a target population, helping public and private organizations prepare for emergencies. The platform supports community engagement by offering hotlines and chatbots, strengthening connectivity with residents during critical periods.
  • ●       Load Up – A prepaid load distribution platform, Load Up provides a secure and convenient way to disburse mobile load to personnel so they can stay connected. The platform also allows segmentation of contact groups, supports flexible scheduling, and provides detailed reporting and audit trail.

When disaster strikes, Globe ensures continued connectivity through rapidly deployable Emergency Base Stations. These units enable communication in affected areas, minimizing disruption, and enhancing situational awareness for impacted communities.

Supporting hunger relief through Hapag Movement, employee volunteerism

As hunger rates continue to rise across the country, Globe reinforced its commitment to addressing food insecurity in observance of World Food Day 2024, guided by the global call for “Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future—Leave No One Behind.”

Through its Hapag Movement and Employee Volunteering Engagement Program, Globe has provided essential food support for individuals and families, including Indigenous Peoples (IP) groups, suffering from involuntary hunger.

The latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey shows that 16.8% of Filipinos face moderate hunger, while 6.1% endure severe hunger. The crisis is most pronounced in Mindanao and the Visayas, where percentages have nearly doubled, disproportionately affecting low-income communities.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Globe rallied its employees and partners to deliver relief to those affected, fostering a culture of active community service and encouraging its workforce to create positive change.

In response, 480 employees joined a food repacking marathon at The Globe Tower together with Rise Against Hunger PH. This collective effort produced 3,060 food packs that benefitted 18,360 individuals in places devastated by recent typhoons.

Employee volunteers in Cebu City assisted in packing and distributing food supplies to 220 families at the Cebu City Operation Second Chance Center (CCOSCC) and Balay Samaritano, a collaboration between Globe and the Ayala Foundation.

“Globe’s commitment to nation-building is truly inspiring. Their employees’ dedication to volunteering to help our communities is commendable. Together, Ayala Foundation and Globe can make a significant impact in addressing hunger and improving lives,” said Marlito Cabigas, Senior Associate for VisMin, Corporate Citizenship & Volunteerism, Ayala Foundation.

Likewise, in partnership with Tzu Chi Foundation Davao, Globe employees supported the Sto. Niño Central Elementary School in Talaingod, Davao del Norte, providing food packs and cybersecurity education to 150 parents, including IP members, while facilitating SIM distribution to promote digital inclusion.

“Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines is truly grateful for this partnership. This initiative fosters inclusivity, particularly as we focus on our Indigenous Peoples (IPs) brothers and sisters here in Davao. Tzu Chi consistently supports such partnerships; by collaborating with like-minded organizations like Globe, we can achieve significant progress in creating a Globe of Good.” -Mine Heart B. Tantoy, RSW, Tzu Chi Davao Social Welfare Officer

“Our World Food Day initiatives are an extension of Hapag Movement’s goal of addressing hunger, especially in communities hit hardest by disasters and poverty,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer. “By mobilizing our employees and collaborating with trusted partners, we aim to provide immediate relief while promoting long-term, sustainable development in the communities we serve.”

Recently, Globe created and launched its #GlobeofGood Volunteering platform to reaffirm its commitment to volunteerism and make it easier for employees to search for and sign up for volunteering activities.

As a socially responsible company, Globe is dedicated to empowering communities through meaningful and sustainable initiatives, encouraging everyone to join the Hapag Movement and strengthen its reach.

Trust has overtaken pricing as the deciding factor in earning customer loyalty and ensuring that their hard-earned money is spent wisely, according to Jenny Echevarria, VP for Enterprise Data and Strategic Services at Globe.

Speaking at the recent BusinessWorld Forecast 2025, Echevarria talked about how Filipino consumers, shaped by economic realities, rapid innovation and shifting priorities, are leaning towards brands that not only deliver on their promises but also reflect values that resonate with their lives.

“The currency for Filipinos has changed. Offering the lowest price will not guarantee you success.  Trust is the new currency of our customers,” she said.

Economic challenges, such as prolonged inflation and stagnant incomes, have driven consumers to demand value and flexibility in the products and services they choose. The widespread adoption of digital payments has made convenience, ease of use, and security non-negotiable.

Environmental realities, particularly increasingly frequent extreme weather events, have amplified the appeal of brands with clear commitment to sustainability efforts. Socio-cultural shifts, especially among Gen Z, have brought mental health and the need for supportive environments to the forefront of customer priorities.

Echevarria emphasized that while brands cannot control most of the external factors,  aiming for success must begin by gaining a deep and thorough understanding of their customers. Each generation has its own expectations, and the values that are important to them shape their brand expectations

Baby Boomers prefer stability and reliable services, while Gen X prioritizes practicality, balance and family security. Millennials seek compassion and purpose, while Gen Z looks for authenticity and inclusivity. Gen Alpha, influenced by millennial parents, embraces creativity and curiosity.

Businesses that understand and respect these differences can create meaningful connections across age groups, fostering loyalty and trust.

Echevarria, cautioned that trust is fragile. It takes years to build but could be lost in an instant when promises are not fulfilled. This reality makes reliability and alignment with customer’s values and priorities necessary for long-term success.

She also noted the changing role of physical retail spaces, stressing the need to reimagine these areas as venues for fostering shared experiences and creating impactful connections.

“Retail is like telco in some way. We are both in the service of connecting. For us, it’s connecting people.  For retail, it is about connecting people to products and services,” she said. “Retail should move from connecting with shelves to using their spaces for people to connect to other people and allow for space for people to connect to themselves.”

Echevarria urged businesses to always place the customer at the heart of their strategies. Trust, when earned and maintained, creates a lasting bond that benefits both customers and businesses, ensuring shared growth and success over time.

“When we put customers at the center of what we do, we can never go wrong,” she concluded.

Globe Business, a leading digital transformation enabler in the Philippines, empowers cooperatives nationwide with cutting-edge digital tools to strengthen member engagement, optimize operations, and drive sustainable growth.

Cooperatives are essential in addressing financial and social gaps, particularly in rural areas. They promote local community development by providing essential services to individuals without access to traditional banking systems, offering stability and economic opportunities.

However, many of these cooperatives continue to rely on manual processes, which limits their ability to improve efficiency and adapt to the evolving demands of the modern era.

Today, an estimated 60% of Filipino adults own mobile phones and engage in online transactions, a huge leap from just 11% in 2019, according to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Financial Inclusion Dashboard. Cooperatives are, thus, given an unprecedented opportunity to leverage digital platforms to enhance their services.

By utilizing Globe Business’ ICT infrastructure, even cooperatives in far-flung locations can adopt productivity tools. Examples include Google Workspace to improve collaboration across geographically dispersed areas and M360’s SMS Blast for timely and effective member communication and engagement.

“As key contributors to economic stability and inclusive development, cooperatives hold immense potential to uplift underserved areas. We strive to bridge the urban-rural divide by helping them scale their operations, embrace innovation, and succeed in an increasingly digital world,” said KD Dizon, Vice President and Head of Globe Business.

Further demonstrating its commitment to equipping cooperatives with the tools necessary for success, Globe Business recently entered into a partnership with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA)

Globe Business worked with CDA to connect with cooperatives through roadshows, webinars, and the Metro Manila Cooperative Congress, offering platforms to explore the role of digital transformation in achieving their goals.

“This collaboration is more than just about services—it’s about improving lives. Through technology from Globe Business, we aim to uplift communities and accelerate their journey out of poverty. We are grateful for Globe’s involvement as we know we cannot achieve this alone. This partnership holds great promise, and we look forward to its lasting impact,” said Usec. Joy Encabo, CDA Chairman.

With its connected ecosystem, Globe Business supports cooperatives at every stage of their digital transformation, providing infrastructure, cybersecurity, and cloud services to drive growth and protect member data.

In line with its efforts to advance connectivity, Globe has launched Connectivity Champions, recognizing individuals and groups instrumental in advocating for universal and meaningful access.

In its inaugural year, Globe selected three individuals known for their contributions to driving positive change by bridging the digital divide and fostering a more connected society. The 2024 winners were evaluated based on their impact on internet access, innovation in digital inclusion, sustainability and scalability of initiatives, and community influence.

“Through Connectivity Champions, we hope to amplify the efforts of those who have gone above and beyond in their roles to push for reliable and equitable access to connectivity in the country. Their work reflects Globe’s goal of ensuring that connectivity becomes a right, not a privilege,” said Michelle Ora,  Vice President and Head of Strategic Partnerships and Programs at Globe.

Here are Globe’s 2024 Connectivity Champions

Connectivity Visionary: Delfin Angelo C. Wenceslao

The Connectivity Visionary Award is given to real estate developers who advocate for connectivity as a basic service, build internet-ready infrastructure, and support policy reforms.

Delfin Angelo C. Wenceslao, President and CEO of D.M. Wenceslao and Associates, Inc., was recognized for championing fiber-ready properties for In-Building Solutions (IBS) facilities and estate underground infrastructure for immediate connectivity and resiliency.

Wenceslao’s commitment is exemplified by his leadership at Aseana City, a master-planned community focused on seamless connectivity, enhanced living, and economic growth.

“We are building a connected city. And building one involves creating an ecosystem that prioritizes seamless communication, digital access, and modern infrastructure,” he said. “Connectivity is a non-negotiable requirement for tenants and customers. A strong telco partner like Globe helps us deliver on this expectation by providing robust and scalable solutions.”

Connectivity Trailblazer: Guillermo “Bill” Luz

The Connectivity Trailblazer Award highlights individuals who drive the expansion of connectivity. Guillermo “Bill” Luz, Chairman of Liveable Cities Philippines, was acknowledged for advancing technology integration in urban development.

As co-chairman of the National Competitiveness Council (2011-2018), he facilitated partnerships between government agencies and the private sector to support connectivity initiatives.

Luz said for a city to be competitive, every building must come with built-in connectivity.

“Connectivity should be treated like electricity and water— it must be part of the standard utility package. Whether for homes or commercial developments, connectivity should come pre-installed with the building. Ideally, it should be ready to activate upon turnover, allowing immediate use of the service” he said. Connectivity is no longer optional, it’s a necessity,” he said.

Luz spearheaded the Liveable Cities Program, which promotes intelligent city development through tech-driven service delivery, improved government services, and citizen welfare.

His efforts also extend to strengthening connectivity in disaster-prone areas to ensure effective communication during emergencies, establishing his role as a key advocate for connected and disaster-ready communities.

Digital Transformation Award: Ernesto V. Perez

The Digital Transformation Award is presented to government officials who champion policy reforms and initiatives for greater connectivity and digital inclusion.

Ernesto V. Perez, Director General of the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA), was commended for advancing policies such as the removal of excessive charges on telcos by local government units (LGUs) and homeowners’ associations, which eased the deployment of telco infrastructure.

Perez partnered with the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) to digitize telecom permits, expediting approvals and enhancing connectivity. He also supports shared telecom towers to expand coverage and lower costs.

“Connectivity is the backbone of the modern economy,” he said. “By investing in connectivity today, we can prepare for a future where technology is seamlessly integrated into every aspect of our lives. However, it is crucial to ensure that this digital transformation is equitable and inclusive.”

He also noted the importance of public-private collaboration.

“By working together, we can accelerate the deployment of high-speed internet, reduce costs, and expand coverage to underserved areas,” he said.

The Connectivity Champions initiative supports Globe’s Zero Lease effort, which removes cost barriers for developers and property owners to host IBS and essential telecom infrastructure. This approach allows telco services to be more affordable and readily available for all.

The advancement of digital transformation in the Philippines hinges on the strength of public-private partnerships (PPPs), which are crucial in bridging connectivity gaps and driving the effective use of technology.

Speaking at the recent GSMA Digital Nation Summit Manila, Emmanuel Estrada, VP for Regulatory Development and Strategy at Globe, emphasized the importance of government and private sector collaboration to address the evolving needs of Filipinos in the digital age.

Globe, a steadfast proponent of PPPs, actively engages in initiatives such as the Connectivity Plan Task Force (CPTF), led by the Private Sector Advisory Council and comprised by mobile network operators, tower companies, and government stakeholders.

CPTF works toward maximizing existing networks, constructing over 150 new sites, and exploring innovative technologies such as satellite services to serve Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA).

The role of government policy is also pivotal in enabling PPPs to thrive. Estrada highlighted the need to revise outdated regulations and establish transparent, consistent, and stable policy frameworks to encourage private sector investment and ensure that long-term partnerships remain mutually beneficial.

“The old, antiquated policies are no longer effective and relevant in today’s digital economy. Once that is addressed, let’s streamline all the processes. We’ve made a lot of headway. EO 32, for example, has helped speed up our network deployments in the last three years, getting us to where we are right now in terms of connectivity. Those antiquated policies, some dating back to 1931, are the ones that we need to really work on together with the government,” said Estrada in a panel discussion on the topic “From Policy to Practice – Designing PPPs for Digital Innovation.”

Estrada was referring to Executive Order No. 32, which streamlined the permits process for telecommunications infrastructure. Globe has seen a 20% improvement in permits processing between 2022 and 2024, with several LGUs simplifying permits procedure.

Beyond addressing policy barriers, PPPs must look into delivering solutions that meet the specific needs of the public, according to Estrada, underscoring the importance of aligning technology with real-world applications that bring value to individuals and communities.

Estrada noted that while 96% of the population is covered by at least a 3G or 4G signal, only 63% maintain active subscriptions, with much of the usage concentrated on social media platforms such as Facebook and TikTok. While these platforms provide avenues for personal business and entertainment, he emphasized the importance of prioritizing usability that enriches lives.

“First, let’s fix connectivity, and once that’s done, let’s improve usability. It’s one thing to have the connection, but using it effectively and learning how to benefit from it is something else. The usability we’re focusing on involves people using connectivity for educational purposes, reconnecting with long-lost relatives, accessing health consultations, and managing their finances. That’s when it truly brings value,” he explained.

As the Philippines continues its journey towards digital transformation, public-private partnerships remain an essential mechanism for expanding access and ensuring that no one is left behind.  By working closely with the government and other stakeholders, Globe is driving initiatives to deliver universal connectivity and foster meaningful digital inclusion.

The Philippine digital economy holds immense growth potential as enterprises adopt digital tools and Gen Z drives innovation, but achieving the nation’s digital aspirations demands unified action from key stakeholders.

This was pointed out by Darius Delgado, Globe’s Chief Commercial Officer, during the fireside chat on “Paving the Path to a Digital Philippines” at the recent GSMA Digital Nation Summit Manila.

A Robust Foundation for a Thriving Digital Economy

Over the years, the Philippine telco industry has built a formidable infrastructure that bridges the digital divide and promotes digital inclusion. It has, so far, connected over 6 million customers via postpaid broadband and more than 120 million through wireless networks, enabling a digital ecosystem with 87 million online users.

This connectivity has facilitated digital services such as GCash, that empowers over 90 million Filipinos including 6 million merchants and social sellers. Alongside key partners, GCash also provides opportunities for jobseekers to augment their income through the GJobs platform and gigs listed on the platform, as well as digital payment tools for entrepreneurs.

The digital economy has contributed PHP2.08 trillion in economic value in 2022, equivalent to 9.4% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.

Amid such achievements, Delgado stressed the need for partnerships to fully realize the benefits of the digital economy, noting that no single telco could handle the challenges or opportunities alone. Building a robust digital ecosystem requires shared investments, regulatory support, and coordinated efforts.

By working together, the government and private sector can accelerate infrastructure development, promote digital literacy, and create an environment where technology drives inclusive economic growth.

Gen Z and B2B as Catalysts for Growth

With its population having a median age of 24.8 years and 42 million Gen Zs, the Philippines has a unique opportunity to tap into the energy and innovation of its youth.

“In the next five years, we estimate around 11 million new customers joining the mobile base, entering the highly-saturated market with a mobile-first mindset. This presents a huge opportunity in the consumer sector,” Delgado said.

On the business-to-business (B2B) front, he identified significant opportunities among enterprises, which have been slower to adopt digital solutions compared to consumers.

“There’s a lot of awareness and education that needs to be built in terms of how ICT and certain business solutions can help make their operations more effective, more efficient and more pervasive, so they can fully harness the potential of their businesses and improve the customer experience,” he said.

Embracing AI and Cybersecurity

Delgado also emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in the Philippines’ digital journey, saying “You have to leverage the AI curve, otherwise, you’ll get left behind. But it is also our belief that Gen AI by itself will not replace people, but people who are skilled in Gen AI will replace those who don’t use Gen AI.”

Globe is actively preparing for an AI-driven future by investing in critical digital infrastructure, such as data centers, while also prioritizing the continuous upskilling and education of its workforce to ensure the responsible use of AI technologies.

On cybersecurity, Delgado stressed the significance of trust in the digital era. “The most important currency today, given all of the digital scams and security and cyber attacks, is trust. No matter what you offer to the customer, everything goes away if you are not a trusted brand,” he said.

Globe has fortified its cybersecurity controls to mitigate potential threats, though some technologies can still bypass existing measures. In response, the company collaborates with GSMA to strengthen industry-wide standards and push for stricter regulations against digital scams.

A Brighter Future for Filipinos

Delgado reaffirmed the telco industry’s commitment to driving progress, emphasizing its role in addressing societal challenges in health, education, and financial inclusion through technology.

“We are at the cusp of digital transformation moving forward. That means we have a bigger responsibility now as telcos to further the growth of the industry and ensure that the bright future every Filipino aspires for becomes a reality,” he said.

Through sustained collaboration, innovation, and investment, Philippine telcos aim to empower enterprises, build on the strengths of Gen Z, and ensure inclusive progress in the digital age.

Partners with LGU to deliver sustainable connectivity to 10,000 residents

The Globe team, led by Gerhard Tan, Senior Director and Head of Technology Strategy and Innovations (7th from left), at the recent groundbreaking ceremony of the first off-grid solar-powered cell site in the remote island of Taganak at the Turtle Islands in Tawi-Tawi.

Globe is set to establish the first off-grid solar-powered cell site on Taganak Island in the Turtle Islands— a heritage-protected area and wildlife sanctuary in Tawi-Tawi —to bridge the digital divide in the remote area.

The facility is expected to provide around 10,000 residents in the isolated islands with reliable mobile and data connectivity to support essential services, environmental protection, and economic growth. It is also seen to benefit visitors to the wildlife sanctuary, keeping them connected during their trip to the far-flung destination.

The project is set for completion around mid-2025.

As a critical nesting ground for green sea turtles, the Turtle Islands will also benefit from enhanced monitoring and protection of its vital ecosystem.

The new innovative Globe site will be powered by solar energy and equipped with an advanced antenna system and AI-driven energy management with remote monitoring.

Solar power eliminates the need for diesel generators to operate the fully off-grid cell site, a game-changer in an area where transportation is limited and fuel deliveries are unpredictable. It is expected to avoid approximately 40 metric tons CO2 equivalent annually.

Through the landmark project, Globe and its partners are embracing a sustainable approach to digital transformation, meeting local needs for eco-tourism, environmental conservation, and strengthened law enforcement.

“This project is a solid testament to Globe’s commitment to sustainable connectivity, made possible by a strong partnership with the government and local leaders to empower even our most remote communities,” said Gerhard Tan, Senior Director and Head of Technology Strategy and Innovations at Globe at the recent groundbreaking ceremony.

Globe is working closely with the Local Government of Turtle Islands, the 2nd Marine Brigade of the Western Mindanao Command, and the Bangsamoro Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy to complete the project, which will bring life-enabling connectivity to the remote island.

“Connecting Turtle Islands to the digital world marks a new chapter for our community, bringing opportunities for growth, eco-tourism, and security through our partnership with Globe and our dedicated government partners,” said Municipal Mayor Mohammad Faizal Jamalul. The local government allocated land on Taganak Island for the cell site, affirming its commitment to digital progress.

“Turtle Islands is thrilled to partner with Globe to connect our breathtaking paradise with the world. Let’s share the beauty of our islands and empower local communities through reliable connectivity,” said Abrille Yusop Oraiz Turtle Islands Municipal Tourism Officer.

Brigadier General Nestor Narag Jr. of the 2nd Marine Brigade added, “This collaboration not only strengthens our capability to safeguard the Turtle Islands and Sulu Sea but also brings crucial connectivity to the community, aligning security with progress.”

Alongside the cell site project, Globe is supporting waste management on the islands by donating trash bins, reflecting the company’s dedication to both digital inclusion and environmental stewardship.

Expanding digital access to Turtle Islands highlights the power of public-private collaboration to empower communities, boost eco-tourism, support environmental conservation, and enhance security in the Philippines’ far-flung regions.

By simplifying complex topics in the area of information and communications technology, the sessions aim to empower businesses with practical tech solutions they need to thrive in a tech-forward world.

  • Ayala Cybersecurity Day

This was a collaboration among Ayala Corporation, ACEN, and Globe Business in support of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Discussions focused on data privacy, the Philippine cybersecurity landscape, governance, security risks, and the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing digital defenses.

To enrich the experience, Globe Business introduced interactive activities, adding an experiential element to the event. A dedicated consultation room was also provided to the participants for personalized guidance on the brand’s cybersecurity solutions.

  • Breakthrough Masterclasses

This webinar series provides existing clients with a comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity’s vital role in today’s digital landscape. This exclusive opportunity allows attendees to learn how to safeguard their valuable data, mitigate emerging threats, and build resilient digital defense systems. Delivered via live Zoom sessions, the Breakthrough Masterclasses continued with its second installment last November 13, 2024, following its successful debut on August 7, 2024.
