Globe continues to elevate its commitment to improving connectivity across the Philippines by firing up two new cell sites in Bogo City, Cebu.
These installations, located in Brgy. Binabag and Brgy. Marangog promises significant benefits for residents, businesses, and tourists alike, enhancing digital experiences and supporting local economic activities.
The first cell site was strategically placed in Brgy. Binabag along the Cebu North Road, a vital artery connecting Cebu City to the Port of Hagnaya in San Remigio. It is seen to provide better connectivity to the barangay’s 2,500 residents, many of whom are engaged in agribusiness, sugarcane production, and fishery.
Brgy. Binabag is also the site of the scenic Mt. Kampitlok, a beloved local landmark that attracts hikers and nature enthusiasts. The panoramic views from the peak have inspired many to document their adventures through vlogs and social media.
With the new Globe cell site, visitors and locals can now share their experiences in real time, enhancing the visibility of this natural treasure and potentially boosting local tourism.
Meanwhile, the second cell site, built in Brgy. Marangog, addresses the critical need for improved data services for its 2,500 residents. As an agricultural community primarily focused on corn farming, Brgy. Marangog will experience significant enhancements in communication and access to information with this new infrastructure.
Better connectivity means more efficient agricultural practices, access to market information, and opportunities for local businesses to thrive. Residents will be better equipped to engage in digital learning, access healthcare services, and connect with broader markets for their agricultural products.
Bogo City, renowned for its sugarcane production and fishery, is vulnerable to climate change-induced hazards such as typhoons, floods, landslides, and storm surges, underscoring the importance of robust and reliable communication networks.
Globe’s cell towers not only enhance everyday connectivity but also strengthen the city’s resilience during emergencies.
“By improving connectivity in Bogo City, we are empowering communities, boosting local economies, and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents,” said Joel Agustin, Globe SVP and Head of Network Planning and Engineering.
Globe’s continuous efforts to expand its network infrastructure underscore its dedication to providing high-quality, reliable services to Filipinos nationwide.

Globe has begun preparations for the potential impact of Tropical Depression Gener, which is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon, bringing moderate to intense rains across Luzon this week.
Gener intensified from a low pressure area to a Tropical Depression early Monday morning, prompting state weather bureau PAGASA to raise storm warning signal No. 1 in 11 provinces: Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Apayao, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Aurora and Quezon.
PAGASA forecasts that Gener would make landfall in Aurora or Isabela on Tuesday, and then intensify into a tropical storm the following day, when it is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility. The weather bureau warned that the storm could trigger floods and landslides.
Globe has prepositioned technical and support personnel along with critical supplies in areas on the path of the storm in anticipation of its potential effects. Its network facilities are equipped with generators and alternative power sources for backup power in case of commercial power outages.
Globe is also ready to deploy Libreng Tawag, Libreng Charging and Libreng WiFi Services in severely-hit areas where the storm may cause power and service outages.
“We are fully prepared, with our network and teams on high alert, to ensure that our customers remain connected and supported as we anticipate the potential impact of Tropical Depression Gener. Our commitment is to keep services running smoothly, especially in times of need,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer.
Globe urges communities on the path of the storm to store food, water and medicine, prepare first aid kits, emergency light sources and batteries, and to charge their mobile devices and alternative light sources ahead of Gener’s landfall.
Globe also calls on the public to get their weather updates from legitimate and trusted news sources. To help customers access timely and verified weather updates, Globe provides free data access to the website of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Globe has activated new towers in key areas of Cebu Province, providing robust internet services to help drive commerce and foster economic growth. The additional infrastructures are located in Danao City, Cordova Municipality, Naga City, Toledo City, and Cebu City.
Danao City: A Hub of Tourism and Industry
Danao, renowned for its breathtaking views from Mount Lantawan, is set for a boost in local businesses and tourism with Globe’s new towers in Barangays Maslog and Taboc.
Enhanced connectivity will enable tourists and locals to instantly share their trek to Mount Lantawan, attracting more visitors and supporting the local economy.
The tower in Brgy. Maslog is situated near a mall and popular food establishments, supporting digital transactions in this commercial area.
Brgy. Maslog has a population of nearly 12,000 while Brgy. Taboc is home to about 7,000 residents.
Cordova: Gateway to Economic Opportunities
Cordova, a first-class municipality with a population of over 70,000, is seeing rapid growth due to its proximity to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport and major urban centers such as Cebu, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu cities.
The new tower in Brgy. Dapitan is strategically positioned to capitalize on the economic surge brought by the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), expected to boost real estate values and create numerous trade opportunities. It is also seen to boost the tourism industry in this coastal town known for its beaches, resorts, and marine sanctuaries.
Naga City: Bridging Growth and Connectivity
While Naga City enjoys prosperous industrial development, its small, remote mining community of Brgy. Pangdan, home to over 6,000 residents, faces connectivity challenges due to the area’s mountainous terrain.
Globe’s new facility addresses this issue, delivering much-needed internet services that could support the growth of local industries, fostering economic stability and development in Brgy. Pangdan.
Toledo City: Enhancing Industrial and Community Connectivity
The tower in Brgy. Don Andres Soriano, which has around 19,000 residents, will enhance internet services for key establishments including a powerplant and mine.
Improved connectivity will also support farming and fishing communities, providing access to markets while also addressing the area’s history of being earthquake-prone with better disaster response capabilities.
Cebu City: Empowering Aspiring Entrepreneurs
In Barangay Basak Pardo, the infrastructure near Natalio Bacalso Avenue will benefit a population of 18,000. This area, with various establishments including the University of San Jose-Recoletos and Ace Medical Center, will see better connectivity supporting local entrepreneurs in carpentry, plumbing, hair salons, and welding.
“The new towers in Cebu Province are a testament to our dedication to empowering communities, driving economic growth, and supporting local businesses. We believe that strong connectivity is the backbone of progress, and we are proud to play a role in the development of these vibrant communities,” said Joel Agustin, Globe SVP and Head of Network Planning and Engineering.

Globe continues to lead the charge in 5G technology deployment across the Philippines, successfully rolling out 256 new 5G sites for the first half of the year, as it solidifies its role as a driving force in the country’s digital transformation.
With this latest build, Globe’s 5G outdoor coverage in the National Capital Region (NCR) now reaches an impressive 98.45%. While in key cities across Visayas and Mindanao, Globe achieved a 5G outdoor coverage rate of 94.19%, underscoring its commitment to bringing cutting-edge technology to more people, no matter where they are.
The 5G coverage expansion underscores Globe’s ongoing efforts to push the boundaries of digital connectivity and empower Filipinos with faster, more reliable internet services.
In June 2024, Globe registered over 7 million devices connected to Globe’s 5G network, a clear indicator of the growing demand for high-speed mobile data and the company’s ability to meet that demand.
“Our aggressive 5G rollout across the country is a crucial part of our strategy to ensure that the Philippines is at the forefront of digital transformation,” said Joel Agustin, Globe SVP and Head of Service Planning and Engineering. “We are proud to see how our investments are resulting in positive change, enabling our customers to enjoy seamless digital experiences wherever they are.”
In addition to its domestic expansion, Globe has made significant strides on the international front, having forged 5G roaming partnerships with 167 operators across 87 destinations.
These partnerships ensure that Globe customers enjoy high-speed data both in the Philippines and abroad. The move not only enhances user experience but strengthens Globe’s position as a global telecom leader.
Globe’s 5G network helps power the country’s digital future, offering faster speeds, lower latency, and a more reliable connection, all of which are essential for economic growth and development.

Cities are at the heart of economic growth and innovation. Recognizing this, Globe Business has boosted its partnership with non-profit Liveable Cities Philippines (LCC) to accelerate the digital transformation of essential public services across the nation.
“Strengthening our partnership with Liveable Cities Philippines is a key step for us in advancing the digital transformation of public services. With our comprehensive technology solutions, we’re focused on helping cities create efficient and secure technology ecosystems,” said KD Dizon, VP and Head of Globe Business.
“Our partnership with Globe Business has been instrumental in our mission to enhance the competitiveness and resilience of Philippine cities. Globe’s technology and expertise have been invaluable in helping us support LGUs in their efforts to digitize public services and improve overall urban management,” said Bill Luz, Chairman of Liveable Cities Philippines.
LCC addresses a range of contemporary challenges facing cities, including pressing economic, social, and environmental issues. It also prioritizes disaster preparedness, traffic congestion, and urban sustainability.
Globe Business serves as a solutions consultant and partner for local government units (LGUs), offering a one-stop shop for various technological requirements relevant to identified cities. Through the alliance, Globe Business has been actively involved in various LCC Labs, which serve as platforms for sharing best practices, innovative solutions, and appropriate technologies.
These Labs, held online and in hybrid formats, bring together public and private sector participants to discuss themes such as connectivity, cybersecurity, the Internet of Things (IoT), and digital health solutions.
In the first half of 2024, Globe Business participated in three Regular Labs covering a range of topics, from navigating natural disasters and building stronger communities to waste management. Additionally, two Local Labs were conducted in Zamboanga City and Tagbilaran City, focusing on building future-ready cities.
Looking ahead, Globe Business and LCC plan to continue their collaborative efforts, with upcoming Labs scheduled in Batangas and Puerto Princesa in the second half of 2024.
Through their combined efforts, Globe Business and LCC help ensure that cities remain at the forefront of economic and digital progress.

Incidents disrupt connectivity, derail network expansion
Globe recorded an average of 245 cable incidents per month in the first half of the year as thieves continue to target internet cable, derailing the company’s efforts to continuously enhance the network.
In the first half of 2024, Globe logged 1,472 cases of cable theft across the country, averaging over 245 incidents per month. The highest number of cases occurred in May, with a total of 273 incidents reported.
The Greater Manila Area (GMA), which covers Metro Manila and adjacent areas, saw the highest number of incidents, with a total 906 cases during this period. The Visayas region reported 179 cases, Southern Luzon had 135, Northern Luzon 125, and Mindanao 119 cases.
Persistent cable theft causes significant disruptions in internet connectivity, impacting countless customers who rely on Globe’s services for work, education, and everyday activities.
“Cable theft not only disrupts connectivity that our customers heavily depend on for various activities but also sets back our efforts to expand our network reach,” said Joel Agustin, Globe Head of Service Planning and Engineering.
“Each time a thief cuts even one cable for their own selfish motives, hundreds of our customers– individuals and businesses– are affected, including those engaged in the delivery of essential services. The impact is, thus, magnified,” he said.
Connectivity is now a basic and life-enabling service similar to power and water. It has become indispensable in daily life, required for various activities including work, school, livelihood, and entertainment. Cable theft undermines Globe’s efforts to provide reliable connectivity to its customers.
Globe urges the public to be vigilant and to report cases of cable theft to the nearest barangay or police station. By working together, Globe and the community can combat this problem and ensure continuous service for all.
For more information on how you can help prevent cable theft and support uninterrupted service, visit https://www.globe.com.ph/.
Globe recently signed a supply agreement with First Gen Corporation (First Gen) to provide renewable energy for one of its key network facilities of Globe and a data center under subsidiary ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (Philippines) [STT GDC Philippines] sourced from the Tongonan Geothermal Power Plant in Leyte. The supply agreement was signed by Carlos Lorenzo Vega, Vice President for Power Marketing, Trading and Economics of First Gen and Carlos Malana, President and CEO of STT GDC Philippines (3rd and 4th from left, respectively); together with (from left) Alexander Fernando, Operations and Fulfillment Head at STT GDC Philippines; Arlene Soriano, Head of Power Marketing and Sales of First Gen; and Globe officials, namely: Raymond Aguilar, Vice President for Enterprise Risk and Corporate Property Management, Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer; and Gerard Ortines, Vice President of Network Services and CAPEX Management.
Globe has renewed its strategic partnership with First Gen Corporation, a leading power generation company supplying renewable and clean energy in the Philippines, to further its commitment to attaining net-zero emissions by 2050.
The partnership will contribute to expanding Globe’s Renewable Energy (RE) sites through Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) under Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) and the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP).
Globe plans to increase the number of facilities powered by renewable energy from the current 29 to nearly 70 within the next two years, more than doubling its clean energy use. First Gen, a key collaborator since 2020, is one of its partners in this endeavor.
“Globe and First Gen share the same vision of a decarbonized and regenerative future where sustainability is ingrained into the organization and operations. We are pleased to continue our partnership and are committed to supporting Globe as it journeys towards greater efficiency and reduced environmental impact,” said Carlos Lorenzo Vega, Vice President for Power Marketing, Economics, and Trading of First Gen.
Raymond Martin Aguilar, Globe’s Vice President for Risk and Property Management, added: “At Globe, sustainability and risk management are core strategies for building business resilience. This partnership with First Gen is a testament to our dedication to these principles.”
To seal the alliance, a ceremonial signing was held recently among Globe, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) Philippines, and First Gen. The collaboration involves RE adoption not only for Globe’s high energy utilization facilities but also for STT GDC Philippines’ data centers in Cavite.
The telecom industry, with its substantial energy consumption, especially within core sites, plays a pivotal role in today’s digital age. Globe’s Scope 2 emissions, derived from electricity consumption, have historically accounted for an average of 30% of its total Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.
To realize its net-zero ambition, Globe took the bold step of transitioning its sites to RE beginning in 2019 despite RE being limited and costlier than fossil fuels. By year end 2023, approximately 18% of the total energy consumption of Globe, is now powered by RE, avoiding an estimated 77,000 tonnes of GHG emissions.
“As the first publicly-listed company in the Philippines to have approved near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), this partnership fuels us in our pursuit of our net zero ambitions by greening the network and partnering with sustainability-driven companies,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer.
Globe remains at the forefront of environmental sustainability in the Philippine telecom sector, actively engaging stakeholders and championing industry practices that advance sustainability.

Slashes 1H 2024 capex by 25% to achieve positive free cash flows by 2025
Globe expects to finalize its landmark tower sale and leaseback deal by the end of 2024. As of July this year, 88% of the towers in the portfolio have been officially transferred to the tower companies, generating around Php 85.2 billion in gross proceeds. This significant financial inflow is expected to support Globe’s strategic initiatives and further strengthen its financial position.
Also, as part of Globe’s strategy to optimize capital deployment, the company slowed down its capital expenditures (capex) investment by 25% in the first six months of the year, aligned with its goal to achieve positive cash flow by 2025.
Rizza Maniego-Eala, Globe’s Chief Finance Officer, expressed confidence in the timeline for the completion of the sale.
“We are aiming to complete 100% of our tower sale by this year. However, even if we only reach about 92% by December, we will still be on track, considering that the fourth tranche of our tower sale came six months after the first three transactions,” she said.
The tower sale, which started in 2022, has seen significant progress throughout 2024. Globe successfully transferred an additional 48 towers to Phil-Tower Consortium, Inc. (PhilTower) on June 21, for approximately Php 710 million.
On June 28, Globe handed over 140 towers to Miescor Infrastructure Development Corporation (MIDC) for Php 1.68 billion. Simultaneously, 187 towers were transferred to Frontier Towers for approximately Php 2.38 billion.
By July 23, Globe completed the transfer of the last batch of 1,037 sites to Frontier Towers for Php 13.17 billion, marking the full completion of its Tower Sale and Leaseback Deal with the company.
In his recent State of the Nation Address, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. emphasized the importance of common towers for national connectivity, a strategy that Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu fully supports.
“This (referring to the President’s statement) reinforced Globe’s strategy of using common towers,” Cu said. “We believe in the concept that shared tower cost and shared tower build reduces the capex requirements for the telcos. We hope that with the reduced Capex requirement, we’ll be able to collectively put up more towers between the towercos and us.”
With the tower sale almost completed, Globe’s financial outlook remains optimistic.
“Our free cash flow after interest payments for the second quarter of 2024 already entered positive territory, which included proceeds from our tower sale initiative,” said Maniego-Eala.
She added: “We expect the momentum coming from strong operating cash flows to continue through to next year, driven by both top-line growth and our efforts on cost and investment optimization. This positions us to continue posting free cash flow positive results in 2025, even without one-offs.”
To achieve sustainable free cash flow, Globe invested Php 23.8 billion in capex in the first half of 2024, a 25% drop from 2023, consistent with its capex guidance of USD 1 billion this year as part of its sustainable capex spending strategy.
This capex investment, equivalent to just 34% of Globe’s topline, marks a significant decrease from the 44% Capex-to-revenue ratio recorded in 2023. Globe aims to return to the industry’s average levels, targeting a Capex-to-revenue ratio of 30-35% for the year.
As Globe continues to optimize its investments, the company is poised to maintain its leadership in the telecom sector while ensuring sustainable growth and profitability in the years ahead.

Mapupuno, MSU System President; and Prof. Karla M. Madrid-Khalid; Acting Dean of the College of Engineering.
In a move to empower the next generation of engineers and support rebuilding efforts in Marawi, Globe recently donated Php 1.8 million worth of network equipment to the Mindanao State University (MSU) College of Engineering.
The donation, which includes antennas, batteries, and other telco devices, aims to enhance in-school training capabilities and provide students with hands-on experience using cutting-edge telecom technology.
Globe and MSU signed the deed of donation during the college’s 61st founding anniversary celebration and MSU-Globe Telco Week launch, marking the beginning of a promising partnership between the two organizations. The event also coincided with the commemoration of Marawi Day.

Globe donated Php 1.8-million worth of network equipment for use in student training at the MSU College of Engineering in Marawi City
During the event, Globe also conducted a series of educational sessions for approximately 200 students from the MSU College of Engineering.
These sessions covered essential topics:
- Telco 101 oriented them on the basics of telecommunications technology
- The Digital Thumbprint Program trained them on protecting themselves against online risks such as fake news, scams, and breach of data privacy.
- GCash Wealth Management taught students how to maximize the app for savings and investments.
- TM EasyRaket gave lessons on earning opportunities by becoming a load retailer.
- WiFi 101 provided ECE students basic knowledge about the Internet of Things, fiber optics technology, network splicing, and about Globe’s fiber prepaid offer.
- The “Faculty Connect: Share and Learn Session” trained MSU faculty members on the nature and use of equipment and technologies that Globe donated to the university.
Globe also brought a range of engaging activities to the students. TM’s experience booths —FunPasikat, FunLaro, and FunRewards— offered students a chance to immerse themselves in enjoyable and interactive experiences, while Broadband and Philippine Statistics Authority booths provided information and support on various digital services including applying for the National ID, a critical step in the SIM registration process
“This initiative goes beyond providing equipment, but preparing the future generation of tech professionals in Mindanao. It’s also about driving forward crucial advocacies. The internet offers countless benefits, and it’s our responsibility at Globe to help Filipinos not only harness these benefits but also use the internet responsibly and safely,” said Carlo Santos, Senior Director for Analytics, Intelligence and Stakeholder Engagement at Globe’s Sustainability and Corporate Communications Group.
Globe’s Territory 8 Business Head, Racquel Marcelo, said the partnership is a crucial step toward providing academic institutions with the resources they need to succeed. She expressed optimism that the donated equipment will empower MSU students to excel and build a brighter future.
MSU System President Atty. Basari Mapupuno thanked Globe for the donation and support, saying: “It is with great enthusiasm that we accept this generous donation from Globe Telecom. As we mark the beginning of this partnership, I am confident that their support will serve as a catalyst for more future advancements in MSU. May this partnership open more doors for future collaborations and opportunities for our institution.”
Also present during the event were Engr. Najeb B. Pendiaman, Chair of the university’s Civil Engineering Department, Dr. Glen A. Lorenzo, Vice President for Research and Extension, and Prof. Karla M. Madrid-Khalid, Acting Dean of the College of Engineering.
The city of Marawi is still recovering from the devastation of the 2017 siege, which displaced nearly 360,000 people. Globe’s collaboration with MSU-Marawi not only supports educational advancement but also contributes to the ongoing efforts to rebuild and strengthen the community.
By providing both material resources and knowledge-sharing opportunities, Globe is contributing to the cultivation of a skilled workforce and the advancement of technological literacy in Mindanao.

“Our goal is to empower Filipinos to take charge of their health. By offering an affordable and convenient diabetes screening package, we’re making it easier for individuals to invest in their well-being and potentially detect diabetes in its early stages,” said Beia Latay, KonsultaMD CEO.
KonsultaMD’s bundled plan simplifies the diabetes screening process. Users can easily access the service through the KonsultaMD app, schedule their Fasting Blood Sugar test with a partner diagnostic laboratory, and then consult with a general practitioner available 24/7 to interpret the results.
By promoting early screening, a healthy diet, exercise, and weight management, the company aims to contribute significantly to reducing the impact of diabetes on people’s lives.
This initiative aligns with KonsultaMD’s mission to revolutionize healthcare access in the Philippines. As a portfolio company of 917Ventures, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Globe, KonsultaMD offers comprehensive telehealth services, including 24/7 doctor access, medical certificates, same-day pharmacy delivery, at-home diagnostics, and nursing care for newborns and the elderly.
