Globe has installed a total 20 new sites across four provinces in Central Luzon, aiming to boost the region’s digital infrastructure and support its predominantly agricultural economy and growing tourism sector.

In Bulacan, Globe built six new towers: two in Marilao and one each in Angat, Doña Remedios Trinidad, Hagonoy and the city of San Jose Del Monte. A total of 22 other sites were also expanded across the province.

Six new towers were also recently built in Nueva Ecija, with one new site each in Aliaga, Gapan City, General Tinio, San Isidro, Santa Rosa, and Talavera. Globe also expanded 11 existing sites to ensure that both urban centers and rural communities gain access to faster, more reliable digital services.

In Pampanga, Globe built an additional five cell towers to provide better network coverage in Apalit, Floridablanca, Mexico, San Luis, and Sasmuan. In addition, 15 existing sites were upgraded to expand network capacity and coverage.

Tarlac, meanwhile, got three new sites in Bamban, Concepcion and Tarlac City, with other sites also upgraded, further enhancing the province’s overall network coverage.

“Globe’s network expansion across Central Luzon underscores our commitment to providing world-class connectivity to every Filipino. With these new towers and expansion sites, we are not only enhancing connectivity but also empowering communities to thrive in the digital age,” said Joel Agustin, Globe Head of Service Planning and Engineering.

Better connectivity in the four provinces are seen to benefit various industries, including agriculture, food processing, aquaculture, handicraft and tourism, among others. Improved digital access can lead to greater adoption of innovative techniques, digitalization of business processes, and access to a wider market.

Globe’s continuing network expansion is part of its mission to bridge the digital divide in the Philippines. By continuously upgrading its infrastructure and expanding its network reach, Globe aims to provide all Filipinos with access to the benefits of digitalization, fostering inclusive growth across the nation.

Resetting your modem can be a simple yet effective way to solve many common internet issues. Whether you’re experiencing slow speeds, or intermittent connections, or your WiFi just isn’t working as it should, a quick reset can often do the trick.

To see if your modem needs a reset, check its lights. If the LOS or third light from the left is red, that means there’s no connection. If the PON or second light from the left is not on or is blinking, you may have connection issues. In both cases, a reset may do the trick to bring your modem back to life.

Globe At Home shows you five easy steps to get your modem back in action:

Step 1: Turn off and unplug your modem
Start by turning off your modem. Most modems have a power button located on the back or side of the device. Press this button to turn off the device, then unplug the power adapter from the modem.

Step 2: Wait for 30 seconds
Wait for 30 seconds to give your modem time to fully power down and clear any temporary issues that may have been causing connectivity problems.

Step 3: Check your cables
Take a moment to check if all the cables connected to your modem are secure. This includes the power cable, fiber patch cord, Ethernet cables, and any other connections your modem might have. Loose or improperly connected cables could be a source of connectivity issues. Double-check them to save you from future headaches.

Step 4: Plug back in and power on
After your 30-second wait, it’s time to bring your modem back to life. Plug the power adapter back into the modem. Once connected, press the power button to turn the modem on.

Step 5: Wait for the lights and reconnect to WiFi
Your modem will go through a series of checks as it powers up. You’ll see the lights blinking and flashing in various patterns. Wait for these lights to stabilize. Once stable, it’s time to reconnect your devices to the WiFi.

“Staying connected is crucial in today’s digital age. Simply resetting your modem can save time and reduce frustration. Consider resetting your modem every few months or whenever you experience connectivity problems,” said Abigail Cardino, VP and Head of Brand Management for Globe’s Broadband Business.

Technology isn’t always perfect, but a little know-how can go a long way in keeping your online experience smooth and enjoyable. Remember to take care of your modem to avoid additional charges in case the device is damaged and should be replaced.

As Vice-President for Consumer Mobile Business at Globe, he has been instrumental in shaping the company’s strategic direction across various domains, including strategy, sales and marketing, and audit. His deep understanding of market dynamics, coupled with a proven track record in P&L management, has consistently driven profitability and increased share value for Globe.

Under Delgado’s leadership, the Consumer Mobile, Broadband, and B2B teams successfully executed strategic initiatives pivotal in meeting the company’s business commitments in the face of intense market competition and rapid technological changes.

“I’m deeply honored and grateful for the trust and confidence our leaders have given me. Together, we will continue to drive innovation, achieve our goals of a digital nation, and create lasting value for our customers, company, and various stakeholders,” said Delgado.

Globe has fired up four new cell towers in the municipality of Liloan, Cebu, home of the world-famous Rosquillos, significantly enhancing connectivity and digital access for local communities.

This development is seen to benefit residents in the coastal town, particularly in Brgy. Tayud, a remote industrial area that hosts two of these towers. The other facilities are located in Brgy. San Vicente and Brgy. Yati.

Previously limited to sparse 4G and 5G coverage, the three communities now experience a significant boost in mobile and internet services, enriching their daily lives and opening up new opportunities for growth and development.

With the additional network infrastructure, locals can explore more remote work, engage in online learning, and embark on e-commerce ventures through social media and other digital platforms. Businesses can also employ digital solutions to increase productivity and operational efficiency.

“We are unwavering in our commitment to expanding our network to ensure that more Filipinos have access to reliable and fast internet, no matter where they are,” said Joel Agustin, Globe SVP and Head of Network Planning and Engineering.

“This initiative is set to uplift people’s quality of life, bolster local businesses, and drive economic growth in Liloan,” he added.

Brgy. Tayud, which supports Liloan’s shipyards and shipbuilding activities, stands to gain immensely from this upgrade. As the barangay is far away from the city center, the activation of the two towers can help bridge the digital divide for its 22,000 residents.

Among the areas the cell sites cover are Tayud Barangay Hall, Corbox Corporation, Apollo’s View (ground level), Amara, Gallardo’s Venue, and Makaloka Beach Resort.

In Brgy. San Vicente, the new tower benefits nearly 13,000 residents, while the tower in Brgy. Yati provides improved connectivity to 37,000 residents.

Since Brgy. Tayud and Bgy. San Vicente have been identified as flood-prone areas due to rising sea levels, Globe’s new builds could also play a vital role in disaster preparedness and response such as aiding in early warning systems and coordination of relief efforts.

Another immediate benefit for residents of the three barangays is easier access to the municipality’s LiveLoveLiloan App, which offers a range of services, including an online marketplace for local vendors, emergency services, and an electronic transport system.

Globe’s continuous investment in network infrastructure is part of its mission to ensure that all communities in the Philippines can fully participate in and take advantage of the digital economy.

Manila, Philippines, 27 Aug 2024 — ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) Philippines recently opened its upgraded facility in Makati City, another milestone in its expansion efforts to raise the country’s data center capacity to respond to increasing demand.

Data Hall F of STT Makati, formerly known as Globe MK2 Data Center, was launched after renovations and expansion, showcasing the company’s dedication to enhancing its service offerings and capacity to meet clients’ data needs. STT Makati has a total IT load capacity of over 5MW.

“Our mission is to enable our digital future not only in the Philippines but across the world. Our reputation is built on delivering what we promise, a principle that remains central to our strategy. At STT GDC, we don’t just articulate our vision — we ensure that our partners and customers can count on us to execute with precision and reliability,” said Carlo Malana, President and CEO of STT GDC Philippines.

The ceremony was attended by key executives, industry leaders, and dignitaries led by Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay and Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy.

During the program, Binay emphasized the critical role of data centers in bolstering economic growth, creating job opportunities, and supporting smart city initiatives. Uy pointed out that the establishment of the new data centers solidifies the country’s status as a rising data center hub in the region.

Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO and STT GDC Philippines Board Director, spoke about data centers being integral to Globe’s operations, providing essential infrastructure that underpins its digital services and solutions.

“As we expand STT GDC Philippines, we get closer to our dream of turning the Philippines into a preferred location for hyperscalers in Southeast Asia, driving digitalization and uplifting the lives of Filipinos by creating more opportunities for them,” said Cu.

Jaime Alfonso Zobel de Ayala, ACMobility CEO and STT GDC Philippines Board Director, also emphasized the importance of data centers in Ayala Corporation’s portfolio, noting how they drive digital transformation and infrastructure development by attracting international enterprises and supporting local businesses.

“Our goal is to support positioning the Philippines as a regional hub for data storage. As we see growth in the data center business, we are constantly on the lookout for ways that we can harness the synergies across the Ayala group to make sure that we’re positioning this as best as possible,” said Ayala.

In his closing remarks, Bruno Lopez, President and Group CEO of STT GDC and Board Director of STT GDC Philippines, shared their vision of creating a robust, sustainable, and interconnected digital infrastructure that positions the Philippines as a competitive player in the regional and global digital economy.

“The rapid advancements in AI and digital infrastructure will transform the way we live, work, and do business. Our partnership with Globe and Ayala reflects a shared vision and high conviction in the future of this region. Together, we are building the foundation for the Philippines of tomorrow—a future where our world-class data centers drive economic growth and innovation across Southeast Asia,” said Bruno Lopez, President and Group CEO, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres.

Also in attendance were Lionel Yeo, STT GDC Chief Executive Officer, Southeast Asia, and Thomas Ee, STT GDC Group COO.

Meanwhile, construction of STT Fairview and STT Cavite 2 are on track following commencement of construction in 2023.

STT Fairview, slated to be operational by 2025, is set to become the largest data center in the Philippines, with an impressive IT capacity of 124MW once fully built out. Designed to be the most interconnected and carrier-neutral data center campus, it will offer seamless connectivity while incorporating sustainable practices and advanced energy-efficient technologies.

STT Cavite 2, the company’s second data center facility at the General Trias business park, is expected to deliver up to 6MW of total IT capacity.

The strategic expansion of STT GDC Philippines in Makati, Fairview, and Cavite exemplifies the company’s dedication to enabling our digital future.

Globe has made notable strides in its push for the removal of lease fees for in-building telecom facilities, with more property owners and developers embracing the initiative.

“We have made some progress along these lines, getting a number of developers to already agree on this concept,” shared Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO. “We’re just glad to report things are moving and moving in the right direction.”

Cu noted that unlike water and power utilities, which are welcomed without charges, the telecom sector faces a starkly different reality, where leases, access to telco rooms, and various other fees still persist.

Such unregulated fees, which bloat telco expenses, derail efforts to expand connectivity as demand continues to rise, with more and more Filipinos using the internet for daily activities, whether for work, school, livelihood or entertainment.

As connectivity is now a basic necessity, Cu’s vision is to remove obstacles hindering its growth and pave the way for telco services to be more affordable and readily available for all.

Globe is currently working with both real property developers and the government to align priorities for connectivity by encouraging them to remove lease fees for in-building solutions. It also supports bills that seek to amend the outdated National Building Code so that connectivity would be recognized as a basic necessity, paving the way for the removal of lease fees for the installation of relevant infrastructure and the automatic allocation of space for telco cables and equipment in property projects.

Globe’s zero lease initiative is inspired by successful implementations in other Asia-Pacific countries, demonstrating that such a practice can reduce operational costs for telecom companies, foster a more competitive market, and ultimately benefit consumers with improved connectivity and services.

For instance, property developers in Australia are responsible for arranging and financing pit and pipe infrastructure, ensuring that telecom services are in place when new properties are occupied.

In Singapore and Hong Kong, building owners and developers are required to provide space and access for telecom licensees without imposing additional costs, a policy that underscores the mutual benefits for both the buildings and their tenants, creating a win-win situation.

Globe remains committed to driving the adoption of zero lease practices across the Philippines. By reducing barriers and lowering costs, Globe aims to improve access to digital services for businesses and consumers alike, ultimately contributing to a more connected and competitive economy.

Globe continues to make significant strides in expanding its network infrastructure across the country, building 352 cell towers and upgrading 1,942 existing mobile sites to LTE technology for the first half of 2024. The network buildup aims to enhance Globe’s mobile services and data speeds to provide reliable life-enabling connectivity to Filipinos.

In addition to mobile network improvements, Globe has made notable advancements in its fiber infrastructure. The company deployed 39,880 fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) lines from January to June this year, further expanding its high-speed fiber internet coverage.

This year’s rollout is strategically planned to maximize the utilization of Globe’s existing fiber inventory, aligning with its reduced cash Capital Expenditure (Capex) allocation.

Globe’s network expansion efforts extend beyond urban centers, having successfully brought connectivity to over 500 Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) as part of its commitment to bridging the digital divide.

By connecting remote communities, Globe enables residents to access vital online services, educational resources, and economic opportunities that were once limited by geographical barriers.

Joel Agustin, Head of Service Planning and Engineering of Globe, emphasized the company’s dedication to inclusive connectivity: “We believe that every Filipino deserves access to reliable communication services. We’re here to empower them with the tools they need to thrive in a digital world.”

Globe’s network expansion strategy has evolved since 2023, with a shift towards optimizing network investments rather than pursuing opportunistic capacity expansion. This strategic pivot has yielded positive results, allowing the mobile leader to return to sustainable Capex levels without compromising network quality or capacity.

The company’s efforts align with its mission to improve the country’s digital infrastructure and support the government’s initiatives to enhance nationwide connectivity and improve quality of life.

In a significant stride towards bridging the digital divide, Globe has installed new cell towers in three remote barangays in Cebu province. This initiative brings reliable connectivity to long-underserved areas, fostering both economic growth and social inclusion.

“As we continue to expand our network, we remain committed to providing equitable access to digital services across the Philippines so that Filipinos can participate fully in the digital economy,” said Joel Agustin, Globe SVP and Head of Network Planning and Engineering.

Brgy. Ilihan in Tabogon, Brgy. Poblacion in Compostela, and Brgy. Simala in Sibonga have historically faced challenges in accessing reliable connectivity due to their geographical location and limited infrastructure.

Brgy. Ilihan is one of the least populated communities in Cebu, with 3,818 residents. Being far away from other towns, access to reliable internet has been almost nonexistent, hampering the residents’ ability to connect with the rest of the world.

The new cell tower will greatly improve people’s access to information and services, allowing them to engage more socially despite being in a rural area.

In Brgy. Poblacion, Compostela, the new Globe infrastructure on Upper Guiwanon Road is set to benefit 12,573 residents. While only 32 kilometers from Cebu City, it still struggled with limited connectivity.

The new tower will provide stronger and more reliable internet access, which is necessary for the town’s agricultural and dairy industries. Compostela is known for its “queseo,” white cheese made from carabao or cow’s milk. Improved connectivity is expected to support local businesses in reaching wider markets.

Brgy. Simala in Sibonga, with its population of 3,388, is another beneficiary of Globe’s dedication to digital inclusion. The barangay is known for its tourism and agricultural activities, both of which will greatly benefit from improved internet services.

Globe’s efforts represent a significant step towards reducing the urban-rural digital gap, ensuring that even the most remote communities can participate in the digital economy.

Globe continues to demonstrate robust growth in its mobile business, with revenues reaching an all-time high of Php 58.4 billion as of end June 2024, a significant 7% increase from the Php 54.8 billion reported during the same period last year.

Total mobile revenues now make up 71% of Globe’s consolidated gross service revenues, up from 68% a year ago. Mobile customer base has also grown to 59.5 million in the first six months of 2024, reflecting Globe’s strong market presence and customer trust.

“The sustained growth in our mobile business is a result of our relentless efforts to enhance customer experience, deliver innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of our subscribers, and our strategic investments in network infrastructure,” said Darius Delgado, Globe Vice President and Head, Consumer Mobile Business.

Globe’s impressive performance underscores its effective market repair initiatives and unwavering commitment to delivering superior network quality, fostering customer loyalty towards its products and services.

A key driver of this growth is the mobile data segment, which now constitutes 82% of mobile revenues, up from 80% in 2023.

Mobile data revenues hit a record-breaking quarterly high of Php24.2 billion, amounting to Php48 billion for the first half of the year. This represents a notable 9% increase from the previous peak of Php44 billion in the same period last year.

The surge in mobile data revenues is largely attributed to the increasing reliance of Filipinos on mobile apps for a wide range of online activities, including e-commerce, media streaming, and social networking. The widespread availability of smartphones has also further accelerated this revenue expansion.

Mobile data traffic registered a significant uptick, reaching 3,256 petabytes, compared to 2,814 petabytes reported in the same period last year. This increase shows improved data consumption across all brands.

Moreover, the company’s continuous improvement of network coverage and capacity has enabled it to meet the growing demand for mobile data and maintain its competitive edge in the telecom industry.

By prioritizing customer satisfaction and network excellence, Globe maintains its leadership in the Philippine telecom landscape, delivering top-notch products and services that enrich the lives of Filipinos.

Globe’s net income for the first half of 2024 remains solid at Php 14.5 billion, primarily driven by strong growth in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) that effectively offset the increase in depreciation expenses.

Excluding the one-time gain from the Globe tower sale, normalized net income stood at Php 11.9 billion, reflecting a significant 19% increase from the previous year.

Conversely, Globe’s core net income would have surged by 21% if ECPay had been deconsolidated from its books in the first half of 2023.

Nevertheless, Globe’s core net income which excludes the effects of non-recurring charges, foreign exchange, and mark-to-market charges, expanded by 18% year-on-year, reaching Php11.7 billion during the first half of 2024.

“Our sustained growth in both net income and core net income is a testament to our continued commitment to delivering exceptional value to our customers while maintaining disciplined cost management. We are pleased with our performance in the first half of 2024, which highlights our focus on strategic priorities and operational efficiencies,” said Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO.

Globe’s mobile business demonstrated resilient growth, achieving record-high revenues of Php58.4 billion by the end of June 2024, compared to Php54.8 billion during the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the company’s consolidated EBITDA amounted to nearly Php43 billion, marking a strong 6% increase from the previous year. This growth was driven by a 2% rise in consolidated gross service revenues, coupled with a 2% reduction in operating expenses plus subsidy.

EBITDA would have been higher by 7% year-on-year if ECPay’s deconsolidation from Globe’s books was considered as of the first semester of 2023.

Additionally, the company’s EBITDA margin demonstrated impressive year-on-year progress, rising from 50% to 52%, surpassing the full-year guidance of 50%.

As Globe looks to the future, it is poised to leverage its strong financial performance and strategic investments to drive further growth and innovation in the telecom industry.

FTSE Russell evaluations are based on performance in areas such as Corporate Governance, Health & Safety, Anti-Corruption, and Climate Change.  Businesses included in the FTSE4Good Index Series meet a variety of environmental, social and governance criteria.

“We are dedicated to driving positive change within our organization and the communities we serve. This recognition motivates us to further our efforts and continue being a responsible corporate citizen,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer at Globe.

Globe has embedded sustainability into its core operations, starting with identifying its material topics. Through its biennial materiality study, the company is able to prioritize the key concerns of its stakeholders. Globe also conducts an enterprise-level risk assessment exercise where sustainability-linked risks are included. This yearly activity, where top management and management committees across all business units participate, ensures that Globe remains vigilant and proactive in its sustainability efforts.

Applying both a top-down and bottom-up approach, executives set the sustainability ambitions, align them with the company’s business objectives, and allocate the necessary resources to reach their goals.  Employees innovate and come up with solutions to ensure that the ambitions are on track in terms of attainment. Both employees and executives are provided incentives to drive greater adoption and accountability of sustainability commitments and targets.

Sustainability Councils have been established as platforms to upskill, share best practices, and discuss sustainability-linked challenges and opportunities to better serve the customers. Internal ESG Playbooks have also been crafted to offer practical guidance.

Adhering to the principles of  transparency and accountability, Globe annually publishes its Integrated Report to share its ESG performance. This summarizes how Globe creates value for and with its stakeholders to deliver positive societal and environmental impact. The report also marks the second year of adopting the GSMA ESG Metrics for Mobile, highlighting the company’s material impact across the mobile industry’s industry-specific KPIs, particularly in Environment, Digital Inclusion, Digital Integrity, and Sustainable Supply Chain.

The Integrated Report is externally assured to ensure that the non-financial sustainability-related disclosures and performance data meet the reporting standards of GRI and SASB and the principles of Stakeholder Inclusiveness, Materiality, Responsiveness, Reliability, Completeness, and Neutrality.

Likewise, for the first time, Globe has secured an Independent Verification Statement certifying the fair representation of the GHG emissions data of Globe, covering Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions.

Energy companies like ACEN are pivotal in ensuring that Filipinos have access to clean, reliable and affordable energy. Despite the country’s growing population of 119 million, around 2 million households still lack access to dependable electricity1.

The Philippine energy sector contributes nearly 3% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Although the nation has a lower energy consumption level compared to its Southeast Asian neighbors, it remains a net energy importer, producing over 50% of its energy consumption2.

Together, Globe Business and ACEN are paving the way for a cleaner, greener future, demonstrating that robust security and sustainable energy can go hand in hand.
