MANILA – Thailand is set to host the 13th ASEAN Para Games in 2026, with preparations well underway as the country marks 300 days to go before the opening ceremony.
The ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) and Thailand’s Sports Organizing Committee (THASOC) held the first Coordination Committee meeting from March 25-27 to review progress. The meeting focused on key areas, including sports and technical requirements, venue readiness, logistics, promotion, anti-doping controls, and media operations.
The ASEAN Para Games will feature 19 sports, including athletics, swimming, badminton, and wheelchair basketball, across various venues in Nakhon Ratchasima, located 280 km from Bangkok. The 80th Birthday Anniversary Stadium will serve as the main hub, with other venues including Vongchavalitkul University and Suranaree University of Technology.
APSF President Major General Osoth Bhavilai expressed confidence in the event’s success, citing Thailand’s strong track record in hosting major sporting events. “We are committed to ensuring that the 13th ASEAN Para Games will leave a lasting legacy,” Bhavilai said in a statement.
Sports Authority of Thailand Deputy Governor Preecha Lalun assured that preparations were progressing smoothly, with further updates expected in the coming months. The Games are expected to be the largest in history, with a record number of sports and a focus on inclusivity and sustainability for regional para-athletes.
The second Coordination Committee meeting is scheduled for July, as the countdown to the highly anticipated Games continues.
