MANILA — The Philippines can expect overcast conditions with intermittent rain showers and thunderstorms in a substantial portion of the country, courtesy of the easterlies, according to the latest bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday.
These conditions are predicted to prevail in regions including the Visayas, Mindanao, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Quezon province. PAGASA has issued warnings of potential flash floods or landslides in these areas, especially during moderate to heavy rainfall.
In the meantime, the northeast monsoon, also known as “amihan,” is impacting the northernmost regions of Luzon, leading to cloudy skies and precipitation over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands. Ilocos Norte and Apayao will experience partly cloudy to overcast skies with sporadic light rainfall.
For Metro Manila and the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies are anticipated, along with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms. The weather bureau has advised residents to remain cautious as severe thunderstorms can result in flash floods or landslides.
Moderate to strong winds are expected in the northern and eastern parts of Luzon, leading to moderate to rough coastal waters. Eastern Visayas and the northeastern part of Mindanao will experience moderate winds and moderate seas. The rest of the archipelago should expect light to moderate winds with slight to moderate sea conditions.
