MANILA — In a weather update on Tuesday (28 Nov 2023), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that various regions in the country are set to experience rain showers due to the influence of the northeast monsoon or “Amihan” and the Easterlies.
PAGASA forecaster Patrick del Mundo emphasized that the prevailing easterlies will bring frequent rain showers, with the potential for severe thunderstorms. Del Mundo urged the public, particularly those in the eastern part of the country, to remain vigilant against possible flooding and landslides triggered by the intense weather conditions.
The easterlies are expected to bring scattered rain showers and the risk of landslides to areas such as the Bicol Region, Aurora, Quezon, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar.
Simultaneously, the northeast monsoon will result in rainfall over Batanes, Cagayan, and Isabela, with the possibility of moderate to heavy rains leading to flash floods and landslides.
The impact of the northeast monsoon will also extend to the Ilocos and Cordillera regions, as well as the rest of Cagayan Valley, causing isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.
No low pressure area
PAGASA clarified that, according to their forecast, no low-pressure area is expected to affect the country at this time. Across Luzon, moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas are anticipated, while elsewhere, winds are forecasted to be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas.
Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions amid the inclement weather conditions. PAGASA continues to monitor developments and provide updates as the situation unfolds.
