MANILA — Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino envisions stronger ties between the Philippines and the United States following President Donald Trump’s victory in the recent election.

“The election of Donald Trump, with his clear and commanding mandate, should bring healing and stability to the United States, which has been polarized in recent years by diverging political and economic opinions,” Tolentino said Thursday (07 Nov 2024).

He added, “Trump’s focus on revitalizing the American economy should contribute to greater stability in global affairs, which would be beneficial for the Philippines. Ultimately, I hope that under ‘Trump 2.0,’ we will see a stronger and more dynamic chapter in the enduring relationship between the US and the Philippines.”

Tolentino was among the invited guests at the US Embassy’s watch party for the US presidential elections, held in Makati on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. expressed optimism about working with Trump, emphasizing the mutual benefits of a partnership based on shared values, common goals, and a long history of collaboration.

“I am hopeful that this unshakeable alliance—tested in both war and peace—will continue to be a force for good, fostering prosperity and friendship on both sides of the Pacific,” Marcos said.
