Senator Raffy Tulfo has called on the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) to suspend the scheduled toll rate increase for SLEX and SCTEX this August.

Tulfo emphasized that the increase should be put on hold until the service issues are resolved. TRB Executive Director Atty. Alvin Carullo agreed with this stance.

During a hearing of the Senate Committee on Public Services, Tulfo highlighted several problems on the expressways, such as traffic jams at toll plazas caused by frequent RFID system malfunctions and flooding on the expressways during heavy rains.

“Ang pangit ng serbisyo tapos mag-iincrease, kawawa ang taumbayan. ‘Wag munang increase,” said Tulfo, who chairs the committee.

He also pointed out issues with toll payment accounts, where balances drop to zero even after motorists have topped up their accounts.

NLEX previously raised toll fees in June 2024. As the Chairperson of the Public Services Committee, Tulfo stated that he would prevent any further toll rate increases on other expressways until these problems are resolved.
