MANILA — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, that Typhoon Carina brought more rainfall than Typhoon Ondoy, which occurred in 2009.

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes stated that Typhoon Carina delivered 471 millimeters of rain in 24 hours, compared to Ondoy’s 455 millimeters.

“‘Yun pong tubig na dala nitong bagyong Carina ay mas mataas…kaysa sa dala ng Ondoy,” he said.

However, he noted that the water receded more quickly during ‘Carina’ than it did during ‘Ondoy’.

“Nakita naman po natin na mabilis tumaas ang tubig pero mabilis din naman pong nag-recede,” Artes explained.

The Metro Manila Council had earlier declared a state of calamity due to widespread flooding.
