MANILA – The US Department of State has approved a potential $5.58 billion sale of 20 Lockheed Martin F-16 fighter jets to the Philippines, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced Wednesday (02 Apr 2025).
The package includes 16 F-16C and four F-16D Block 70/72 aircraft, along with engines, radars, weapons systems, and support equipment.
The DSCA said the deal would enhance the Philippine Air Force’s maritime awareness, air defense, and interdiction capabilities, strengthening national security and US-Philippine military ties. The sale, pending Congressional approval, is not expected to shift regional power dynamics.
“This supports US foreign policy by bolstering a key Southeast Asian partner,” the DSCA noted. The Department of National Defense has yet to receive official confirmation.
