ISTANBUL – Vietnam has appointed To Lam, the Minister for Public Security, as the new state president, according to an announcement by the country’s Communist Party on Saturday.

During the closing session of the 9th plenum, the party’s central committee also appointed Tran Thanh Man, the standing Vice-Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly, as the new head of the parliament, local media reported.

In mid-March, then-Vice President Vo Thi Anh was appointed acting president following the resignation of Vo Van Thuong, who stepped down due to alleged violations of party rules.
