MANILA — Senate President Chiz Escudero stated that Vice President Sara Duterte cannot be summoned to answer the articles of impeachment against her yet, as Congress is currently on a session break.
“It cannot legally be done. Hindi po siya puwede dahil walang sesyon ang Senado,” Escudero said.
“Na-presenta na ba nila ‘yung articles of impeachment sa plenary? Na-convene na ba yung court? Eh, hindi pa naman eh. Edi hindi pa rin pwede ‘yun,” he added.
This statement came after the House of Representatives prosecution panel requested the Senate to order Duterte to answer the impeachment charges against her.
Escudero emphasized that such a move would be illegal.
“Kahit naman makumbinsi mo ako, illegal pa rin ‘yun e, so hindi ko gagawin. I will not do anything that is illegal. Unless a special session is called, which I doubt,” he said.
