MANILA – The Philippine weather bureau announced on Monday (12 Feb 2024) that a shear line and the northeast monsoon, known as “Amihan,” are expected to bring rain showers to various regions of the country.
Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, attributed to the shear line and the easterlies, are anticipated over Eastern Visayas, Capiz, Aklan, Iloilo, the Bicol Region, and Romblon.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a bulletin at 4 a.m., warning that moderate to heavy rains in these areas could potentially trigger floods or landslides.
Amihan is forecast to bring light rains to Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and Quezon, with isolated light rains expected across the remainder of Luzon.
According to PAGASA, the easterlies and localized thunderstorms will persist, causing isolated rain showers across the rest of the country.
Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters are expected across Northern and Central Luzon, as well as the eastern section of Southern Luzon. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate, with seas ranging from slight to moderate.
PAGASA forecaster Obet Badrina indicated that no tropical cyclones are expected to develop or enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this week. However, he mentioned that colder nights are likely due to the influence of Amihan, particularly in Luzon and the Visayas.
Temperatures are expected to range from 12 to 21°C in Baguio, 19 to 29°C in Tuguegarao, 20 to 29°C in Tagaytay, and 22 to 31°C in Metro Manila.
Forecast temperatures for Tacloban are 24 to 31 °C, and for Cebu and Iloilo, they are expected to range from 25 to 30 °C.
